Putins proxies have taken hundreds of square miles of Ukraine since the last peace deal. Top Democrats want their president to give the Ukrainians the weapons to fight back. Hawkish Republicans have leaned on President Obama for the better part of a year to give weapons to Ukraine as it battles Russian-backed separatists. Now its members of Obamas own partyboth within Congress and from members of his own administrationthat are calling on the president to arm the Ukrainians, before they lose even more territory to the Kremlins proxies.
On Capitol Hill there is a renewed sense of urgency: The top-ranking Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee, Adam Smith, will join with his Republican counterpart Mac Thornberry on Tuesday to present a bill that would further pressure the president to give the Ukrainian government weaponry, although legislators have yet to spell out the specifics of the bill.
And in the last week, a bevy of Democratic pols and former diplomats have said that the United States should do more.
Later this weekif it goes any later than that... Rep. Eliot Engel, the top-ranking Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, told The Daily Beast on Monday. They need the weapons, they need them soon, and they need them quick. Our credibility is on the line, and whats right is on the line, Engel said.

Cruz wants to arm them too. My opinion is that although it is a sad thing the Ukraine is a (nuclear armed to the teeth) Russian interest led by an unstable leader. I wouldn’t arm the Ukraine against the Russians.
Russia has for one thousand years ignored its neighbors’ desires not to be annexed into the evil empire. Mr. Putin, tear down that mentality!
The way this works is that we will give weapons to a government that most of its own people are unwilling to support. Said weapons will then be sold or traded by the kleptocrats at a steep discount to the very people they are supposedly fighting.
I think they’ll first need to help him find his balls.
I would like to think that giving the Ukrainians weapons would work. But Mother Russia is right next door and many people in Eastern Ukraine are supportive of Russia. They even speak Russian! It may be worth a try. But I’m skeptical it would help.
They only need to be strong enough for Russia to get the message that its not worth invading.
Cruz and Palin both support arming Ukraine, let’s hope that Obama takes this Reagan like, common sense action.
A recent poll says most of those in “east” Ukraine want to remain part of Ukraine.
These were people who fought this sort of thing tooth and nail in Iraq when it was politically convenient to them. And now “our credibility is at stake”? Really? Whose credibility is that, and at what point did that become more important than the interests of the Ukrainians? I have lost any vestige of faith in our State Department to make an intelligent decision on the matter, my evidence being what their meddling in Egypt, Libya, and Syria has cost us, not just in credibility but in blood. Color me intensely skeptical.
Stay out of Ukraine. Stay out of Europe. Don’t arm any of them. We cannot be part of any European war. Not this time. We have shown time after time we do not have the stomachs to win.
Obama won’t do anything, and if he did it’ll be some half measure like vehicles without engines and guns without firing pins or something
Arming a friendly country is not being a part of the war, we sell arms to many countries on Earth.
Why not give them weapons? Russian troops aren’t fighting right?
How is that supposed to help gun control or Muslim conquest?
Let’s just wait and see what the U.S. sends, if we decide to send weapons and equipment.
