Chauncey DeVega, black writer, podcaster, and self-proclaimed "ghetto nerd," shared an essay on Daily Kos in which he reminds those that are horrified by the brutality of ISIS burning Lt. Muath al-Kasasbeh alive to remember that white Americans did the same thing to blacks in the past.
"American Exceptionalism blinds those who share its gaze to uncomfortable facts and truths about their own country," wrote DeVega. Adding that just like their Islamic cohorts, "white lynchers" practiced their own "unique cultural ritual" that was just as "gruesome" and "medieval" as ISIS "for almost a century." And instead of making a video of the crime and posting the propaganda on the Internet as is done today, whites of old shared "the spectacular lynchings of the black body" through postcards and "other media."

He doesn’t understand what he just said. If its “so what” for the one, its “so what” for both. He correctly points out the moral equivalency of burning men to death, but then says “so what”.
The moral man is horrified by such evil. A man like DeVega shrugs his shoulders.
“Would you denounce it if it was done by white people?” he asks. Wow. What a narrow twisted world he lives in.
Ah, the incredible stupidity of the Liberal mind. By giving assent to Mohammedan barbarity and equating that with white people doing it to blacks, they justify BOTH actions.
Liberalism is truly a disease of the mind.
They are disgusting. I didn’t do it and I resent being considered as a member of the group that did it.
It has nothing to do with black or white.
It has everything to do with following the quran.
Wrong for thee, right for me.
So What: America held blacks as Slaves, Blacks STILL HOLD OTHER BLACKS AS SLAVES.
ISIS = Jim Crowe? 0bamas moral equivalence is an empty argument.
Leftists: Psychotic, adolescent, puerile, violent,
junior-high-schoolers.
IMHO
Not only blacks, but women were burned alive. One of the notable ones from history was Joan of Arc, a girl still in her adolescent stage of life, declared to be a heretic. Many others were burned as being witches possessed by the devil, long before there were any black people who suffered a similar horrible death, on the European or North American continents, at least. For recent examples of blacks being burned alive, one only look to South Africa, when bands loyal to Winnie Mandela were fond of “necklacing” their opponents and rivals among the various black tribes, by filling an automobile tire with fuel oil, hanging it around the neck of the captured victim, bound and sitting on the ground, and set it ablaze. And that was not white people dropping the match, either.
Being burned alive is not a very good way to die, for anybody, and for someone to intentionally set a helpless captive on fire is more than simple cruelty, it is a massively hostile way to execute a person.
He doesn’t know current history.
An American was showing some friends from England around the nation’s capital and happened to remark, “You know, the British burned Washington in 1814.” The English tourists were horrified. “We knew we burned Joan of Arc, but we thought that Washington died of natural causes.”
It was white people that also thought it was wrong and got it abolished too. BTW a large majority of those slaves were sold to white men by their own people. Chew on that for awhile will ya...
By contrast during that time, about three thousand blacks were lynched by whites. And while lynching is a crime, many of those blacks lynched were guilty of crimes including rape and murder. I'm sure DeVega would be happy to look at photos of whites murdered by blacks. (snicker)
The most striking problem with this analysis is that Christianity was the greatest moral force against these abuses. Yes, there were white Christians who supported slavery and Jim Crow but the downfall of both these noxious institutions was Christianity or specifically white and black Christians. Just listen to the “Battle Hymn of the Republic” and reflect on the Reverend attached to Martin Luther King’s name. There is, at this point, no comparable movement within Islam although there are some brave individuals.
And if you don’t like it you might prefer south africa
It’s very frustrating to try and debate history with people like this moron who don’t possess any real knowledge of it.
During the same period that European Christians were involved in the slave trade carrying Africans to slavery in the New World, Muslim Turks were enslaving Christians in the Mediterranean and sometimes in the Atlantic. In 1715 Turkish pirates raided the village where some of my ancestors lived and carried off 24 people whom they sold as slaves. As late as 1815 or 1816 Turks raided the island of Sardinia and took away people to be sold as slaves.
That is a good point and I never would have thought of it.
I read those Hillary Mantel (sp?) books about Henry VIII and co. and I was really horrified at the brutality with which “heretics” and political enemies were executed. Disembowled, etc. It was really gruesome. And I was thinking that this wasn’t really all that long ago in terms of history. You know, one thinks people of that era were civilized but in some ways things were still rather backward.
Any doubt now that leftists have made their reasons for their Germano Soviet collaborator pact?
They are not even denying it now.
