So, I've posted a number of comments to this thread supporting the guy's basic right to build a gun range. I would like to caveat that, and I will admit that sub-standard construction and poor implementation of something like a gun range is not acceptable. Maybe he is a fool.
But my point has always been about Principle. On a daily basis, I see people who ostensibly believe in limited government, yet they constantly point and say "I don't like that -- there ought to be a law!"
Some laws have value. I am not an anarchist. I am not a Libertarian. But I like limited government. And, as a general statement of Principle, I don't want my neighbors to control how I live. And when I say "neighbor", I don't me the guy whose house I can see through the trees. I basically mean You. Or Harry Reid.
But, yes, a patently unsafe gun range would seem to be a bad choice in a tightly packed community.

I agree 100%.
None of my posts have advocated having the government solve this issue.
I believe in personal freedom coupled with personal responsibility -— with a little common courtesy thrown in whenever possible.

I have nothing against a personal gun range. This isn’t a personal gun range, it is a cobbled together target without a proper backstop and not even a fence to prevent someone from entering into the ‘danger zone’ from the rear.
There ought not be a law here, but common sense and gun safety. Appears to be utterly absent, but unfortunately, will be used to limit the rights of others, simply because too many laws are made based upon the exception (this idiot) vs the rule.

Yeah, won't anyone think of the children? Everyone on this thread can denigrate this gun owner, comparing him to this guy. I've taken flak over open carry (against) and zoning laws (for), but I'm sticking with the gun/property owner/renter here. There are too many concerned, DU-like, "Why does he have to do this, why he can't go to a real gun range?" etc. here. If they neighbors don't like this guy doing something that the police are saying is entirely legal, they can take him to court. Otherwise, they can shut it .... the 2nd Amendment: keystone to the Bill of Rights.
