Nationwide ad featuring 'dead' child is most controversial of Super Bowl

GoDaddy may be off the hook.

Insurance company Nationwide set off a Twitter firestorm Sunday with its first of two commercials in the Super Bowl, a 45-second spot featuring a young boy talking about all the things he won't be able to do in life ... because he's dead.

Among the things the boy says he'll never experience: riding a bike, getting cooties, learning to fly, traveling the world in a boat with his dog and getting married.

"I couldn't grow up," the boy says, "because I died from an accident."

The domestic violence ad was stupid. It was to help the NFL with their image problem even though the incidence of domestic violence is lower among football players than it is among the general population,

Also, what about the 40% of domestic violence incidents in which the male is the victim. Janay Rice was the one that began beating Ray.

Or how about that 85% of the time women are awarded child custody during a divorce or the large disparity in the suicide rate between men and women following divorce.

Those don't matter because the NFL is feminized.

That ad, if you watched it closely, shows people who are still in the same place as their abuser, how to get help while making their abuser think they are just ordering pizza or making some other mundane phone call.

What it demonstrates is an astute 911 dispatcher, who picks up on what’s really going on. It was the best commercial, in the “teaching moments” department. But you had to be paying attention to the whole ad.

The conversation between the woman and the 911 dispatch was taken from a real phone call.

That would have been a good ad for a car company with a sterling safety record ... But an INSURANCE company???

“I did not see anything wrong with that add.”

I didn’t either, much better than their acrobat girl and weird guy ads, they are irritating. The Peyton Manning ads I thought were good.

Maixpad Commercial:

I think it is odd and inappropriate to use children to sell maxipads and tampons, and the theme of "girl power/girls are strong" reeked of Political Correctness and identity politics.

That commercial teaches girls that they are oppressed and can do anything just as good as boys can, which is factually untrue. It is part of the unraveling of our culture, this gender warfare.

Most of the commericals were not all that great.

The best one is the Budwiser one about friendship.

If the Fiat was truly on viagra it would have turned into a Dodge Challenger Hellcat.

Isn’t that the truth. It is starting to look like pro-football is about as legit as pro-wrestling. Is there anything left that isn’t fixed? And I am not just talking about sports. Politics, global warming, our legal system... these days it seems like it is all for show.

"I couldn't grow up," the boy says, "because I died from an abortion." Imagine the firestorm if THAT line were used!

That was my thought too.... now that would have been an awesome commercial.

Challenger? Bingo! I love them and the new Hellcat is amazing over 700 hp. WOW. I just bought a 2014 1500 bighorn. And really wanted the challenger ..... But my old bones needs big and tall. I would be visiting the chiropractor daily if I had to scrunch down in and out of one all the time.

Hey, lets start posting THAT on liberal boards to start a pandemic of exploding heads!

Something like that is a gift from heaven to the pro life groups if they chose to run with it. Of course, I would be much more inflammatory, I would phrase it: “I couldn’t grow up to have a happy life because I drowned in the toilet at Kermit Gosnell’s abortion clinic.”
