Venezuelan shop owners arrested over long queues
BBC ^ | February 1, 2015

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro says the owners of an unnamed chain of shops have been arrested for artificially creating long queues.

Mr Maduro said the owners had reduced the number of employees working on cash tills in order to create queues and "annoy the Venezuelan people".

He has accused Venezuela's business elite of boycotting his government.

The opposition blames the socialist policies of the past 16 years for the worsening economic crisis.

"Yesterday we detected that a famous chain of stores was conspiring, irritating the people," said Mr Maduro.

"We came, we normalized sales, we summoned the owners, we arrested them and they're prisoners for having provoked the people," he said.

Have to say that a few years ago a younger fellow from Argentina was scolding me about the CIA training terrorists and finally had his fill so he moved back to his hometown (This was in Maryland).

Heh, I do think that he just might be re-thinking his positions now as he gave up a nice life to go back to his lovely Socialist paradise...heh. Sure hope he has some toilet paper at least to wipe the ignorance off of his face!

I once saw a slogan. “The beatings will continue until morale improves.” I couldn’t see any number of beatings actually improving morale. I think the venezualan people are trapped in this same conundrum.

Reminds me of when China was executing executives for poor quality and poor production when they actually didn’t have the materials to build things for months.

Why? He was elected, as was his predecessor.

They chose poorly...although I suspect not a lot of support among businessmen.

Communists never run honest elections. Maduro was certainly not legitimately elected. The only way to remove these tyrants is by revolution, because they will not recognize a democratic removal at the ballot box.

Arrested for "provoking the people"? Wow.

Time to close up shop and leave town. Reality seems to be in short supply in Venezuela these days.

In spite of the facts and the desires of the people these guys just keep on doubling down. Does this sound familiar?

I would laugh, but if some politician here did that to Walmart he’d likely win his next election in a landslide.

“’We came, we normalized sales, we summoned the owners, we arrested them and they’re prisoners for having provoked the people,’ he said.”

Well, it looks like the only thing remaining for Maduro to do is to threaten the ground if it does not start yielding more crops. Like Obozo, all he has to do is issue absurd decrees and then everything is rosy.

No, they don't.

Except for the first one, where they promise to rip off the OTHER guy and give it to you. Why would anyone trust a politician who ran on a platform of violating someone else's rights...would honor anyone's rights?

As I said, they chose poorly...the Commie method is one man, one vote, one time.

They were conned, but they were willing dupes. It was clear what they were voting for. A politician who promises to rip off the rich will get around to everyone else, sooner or later.

>> Maduro is getting more desperate and his days may be numbered <<

I’d call it a “descent into madness.”

Or maybe Maduro just wants to become a Latino version of Pol Pot — evacuate the cities and towns, burn the shops, shoot anybody who wears glasses, etc.

Yes, and not only that:

Jimmy Carter gave his blessing to the election of Chavez, Maduro and company.

Therefore, Maduro must be beyond all criticism.
