It came as no surprise to me that Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker dazzled the audience at the recent Iowa Freedom Summit.
I have long touted the potential strength of Walker as a presidential candidate. He has an impressive record of actual governing accomplishments and has advanced conservative ideas in the face of fierce opposition from unions and liberal activists nationwide. Hes also demonstrated clear political skill in winning three elections in four years in a blue state. At a time of division among Republicans, its hard to think of another candidate who can excite conservatives as much as Walker without giving nightmares to party elites.
I also never really understood where the idea developed among the Beltway media that he was too boring, as over the years Ive frequently seen Walker energize conservative crowds when he needed to. All of Walker's best attributes as a candidate were on display in Iowa, as he spoke with fire in his belly, articulating a firm conservative message that was backed up by his record of success and communicated in an affable and relatable manner.
So, having talked up Walkers chances when many were underestimating him, I think its worth offering a note of caution now that that everybody else has realized hes been underestimated.
For Walker to realize his potential as a candidate, he will have to get serious about foreign policy.

Ted Cruz had the balls and fight to stand against ObamaCare, virtually alone.
The problem is that we still have Obamacare so although his work was nice it was not effective. Walker on the other hand actually gets his goals met by a very difficult state congress. I just want somebody that can get results. After Obama, I am leary of somebody that can talk.
Walker took some advantage of ObamaCare and other subsidies to get people off of Medicaid and into private coverage: http://www.maciverinstitute.com/research/2014/10/report-medicaid-expansion---wisconsin-got-it-right/ This is in contrast to most other states which simply expanded Medicaid which is the worst case for both taxpayers and the recipients. In short he chose among various bad alternatives and did what was best for his state.
He had no choice considering the Dems did everything they could to squelch the alternatives like charity care, expanded HSA's, limited plans (e.g. without birth control and other nonsense), etc.
