A woman known as North Carolina's 'Bear Lady' may have been killed by a bear.
The remains of Kay Grayson, 67, were found in a well-known bear path just 100 yards from her isolated home in Tyrrell County on Monday.
Authorities could only find bones, hair and ripped clothing, which had likely been there for two weeks after she was reported missing.

At least she had the common courtesy not to get anyone else eaten along with her.
humans in ski jackets = soft tacos for bears
Ohhhh, ewwwwww!!! Everyone RUN!
Thought you’d found a picture o my ex-husband for a minute
Uh, the only reason to feed bears would be to lure them to where they could be taken by hunters. Otherwise, they seem to find food pretty well on their own.
Whey do people do this?
Not the same, but google praying mantis and hummingbirds. We found one a couple years ago feeding on a bird!! They will actually hang off the feeders waiting stalking them. I like PMs, but I like by birds more.
No joke, I have 20 different bear a day at my stands, on game cams; they actually wait in line. I've had them climb my stand, thinking I was food, had them stalk me, we just shoot every bear we see, they are troublemakers and will kill you given half the chance.
WE put a hurtin on the local bear, been doing it for years too; and they are still in huge numbers where I live. IF we don't shoot a bunch every spring when we can get them to come in, before grasses come up; they are forever up on my porch, into my burn barrel, breaking in my meat shed & freezers, and just forever scheming to get inside my cabin to see what's good to eat. I've seen bear knock heavy wooden doors off hinges. I've seen bear chew log corners apart to get in when people spike window shutters, go through windows, and if you have ever come home to a bear inside your house; they don't want to leave; and it's a mess to clean up when you shoot one inside the cabin. I've seen bear kill and eat dogs on chains one by one.
People in Alaska eat bear, but more important to shoot as many as possible; never ending battle. If you have kids, it becomes even a more serious endeavor.
Well she had quit feeding them so they were probably grumpy after 20 years of handouts. Kind of like the Amish bears in the projects. :-)
At least she is consistent, after her death she is STILL feeding them.
Below is a case in CO that took place in 2009
Ouray woman killed, partly eaten by bear"
excerpt:
"Soon after last Fridays incident, the DOW reported that its officers have investigated residents at the home for intentionally feeding bears for more than 10 years. Last year, the DOW sent a written notice to Munson and renters at her home warning of the dangers of feeding bears and laying out potential legal penalties if evidence of feeding was discovered. Officers had visited the home dozens of times over the past decade to investigate reported feeding, but officers were met with no cooperation. Efforts to trap nuisance bears on the property were rejected numerous times. "
Oh no!! I’m on the dog’s side!!!! Do you know any other Alaska FReepers in person??
Letterman is a dumbarse, but even he saw it coming.
At least she died doing something she loved....feeding bears!!!
I live in a rural area in the Rockies and I walk my two Rottweilers because of all the predators you mention. Plus, I am well-armed.
I worked in the bush for two field seasons in the Yukon, Canada and I developed a very healthy respect for bears...both black and grizzly. They are not to be fooled with!
First signed onto FR in 1996, but had been lurking for several months. Yes, I do know a few Alaskan Freepers, a few hunting buddies I met on here; but most don’t get on FR much anymore. WE live along the Upper Yukon a few miles from Canadian border. It was minus 51 two days back.
Seriously. twice in my life I have had blk bear put the stalk on me, front quarters down, butt high, ears going back and forth like crazy; came in real slow; me hollering and waving my arms; first bear I didn’t have to shoot, but was within 6 feet of me when he ran back 40 feet, then came in 2 more times before wandering off into the woods. He wasn’t coming into me for me to pet him either. Second time, I just shot the bear and didn’t mess with him. MOstly 1-2 year old boars do this to people. Kinda like hearing porkies scream, if you haven’t had bear put the sneak on bear; you really don’t have a lot of bear where you are at or don’t spend much time in the woods. I’m sure you agree too.
Geez, you are out in the sticks!
I really love that part of Alaska...worked out of Dawson City a couple of seasons and had a helicopter/fixed wing supported gold exploration project I managed SW of Dawson about three miles on the Yukon Territory side of the Alaskan border.
Loved it up there except on the Canadian side it was almost impossible to have a firearm. We did have a shotgun in camp, and had to kill a black bear who would not stay out of camp...this with electric perimeter fence around camp. We chased it off with the chopper but it kept coming back.
You live in an amazing place, (but you can have Fairbanks!). I worked one season at the Fort Knox gold mine out of Fairbanks and was not impressed with the city but did like the brewery at Fox.
Cheers
