I prefer sheep then moose actually, but usually we debone and grind. My nephew brought up his new Lem grinder last spring and we made hamburger outta 6 blk bear. Spring blk bear are pretty good, fall berry bear shot up high are good too and the fat is especially desirable. Local Indians just shoot them around the village, they don't eat bear cause their carcass looks too human I believe. Once bear start eating salmon, they ain't fit to eat. I don't eat grizzly bear, about 20 years back, some Canadians across the border died from eating grizzly bear that weren't cooked enough. The blk bear live down low where people live, so are the biggest problem.

No joke, I have 20 different bear a day at my stands, on game cams; they actually wait in line. I've had them climb my stand, thinking I was food, had them stalk me, we just shoot every bear we see, they are troublemakers and will kill you given half the chance.

WE put a hurtin on the local bear, been doing it for years too; and they are still in huge numbers where I live. IF we don't shoot a bunch every spring when we can get them to come in, before grasses come up; they are forever up on my porch, into my burn barrel, breaking in my meat shed & freezers, and just forever scheming to get inside my cabin to see what's good to eat. I've seen bear knock heavy wooden doors off hinges. I've seen bear chew log corners apart to get in when people spike window shutters, go through windows, and if you have ever come home to a bear inside your house; they don't want to leave; and it's a mess to clean up when you shoot one inside the cabin. I've seen bear kill and eat dogs on chains one by one.

People in Alaska eat bear, but more important to shoot as many as possible; never ending battle. If you have kids, it becomes even a more serious endeavor.

I worked in the bush for two field seasons in the Yukon, Canada and I developed a very healthy respect for bears...both black and grizzly. They are not to be fooled with!
