People want a car that delivers value.
Actually most of the people I know want a car that delivers them to work every day reliably. Cars depreciate in value unless they're put in storage and never driven and Tesla is no different despite bearing the touch of St Musk.

All cars depreciate even before their first oil change. They depreciate the moment you drive them off the dealer’s lot.
And people seem to be happy with their Teslas and they do have a cult following.

And people that own Tesla or Porche or any other exotic brand have another more practical car. The exotics are for fun.

It comes down to price and serving multiple purposes. 120,000 is extremely expensive for a car. I can get a decent range, and the regular functions done personally, at less cost, by getting a hybrid car.
