Carwash workers at Vegas Auto Spa in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, N.Y., voted unanimously to join the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU), an affiliate of the United Food and Commercial Workers, on Jan. 24. They have been on strike since late November over what they claim are stolen wages and unsafe working conditions.

Yep. They’ll be replaced by a fully automated wash tunnel as soon as the owner gets the $150,000 financing he’ll need to put it in. It’s a lot cheaper than a union.

I use an automated wash once in a while. Cash or credit card and provides a decent wash for between $8 and $20. No staff required, except for maintenance and collecting the cash and receipts from the machines. I imagine once the initial investment is paid off, it is a lucrative proposition.

Note to all you restaurateurs, hoteliers, farmers, ranchers, construction subcontractors, fast food franchises and Chamber of Commerce types who think you're going to get a windfall of freshly legalized slave labor. This is your future. And if you think you've seen labor violence, just wait until these muchachos realize they won't be deported for burning down your businesses.
Condign punishment, morons.
Unfortunately, the rest of us will also have to suffer for the consequences of your greed.

Yeah. It is amazing how someone working at a car wash thinks he or she needs a union. Unreal. I wonder if any of these low skill types ever thought about applying self in school?

A lot of the guys who worked the local carwashes near me used to be just out of prison; it was honest work, and it was the only employer who would take them.
Now, I guess that’s gone, too.

They must be Republicans.
Communist Red is the color of the GOP right?
That's what the RNC says.
