Your sidearm and magazines/ammo are like American Express. Dont leave home without it. If you forget them, go back and get them because the one time you don’t have them may be the time you really need them.
A rifle in the trunk carried in a proper manner could come in handy too.

There is a bill in the present session of the Texas Legislature to allow citizens to have open carry rather than just concealed and I believe it also removes the requirement to be licensed, but I’m not positive about that.
The ‘Israeli method’ is to carry your semi-auto pistol with the magazine loaded, but no round chambered, and the slide cycled, as you ‘present’ your firearm.

There are those that ‘snub a snubby’, in deference to a semi-auto pistol, but might you carry one, you still have ‘enough gun’ to do the job.
