Gov. Scott Walker is expected to announce Tuesday morning that he plans to put into the state budget a financing plan that includes bonding to help build a multipurpose arena in downtown Milwaukee.
A source familiar with Walker's plan said the governor's plan relies on the diversion of income taxes paid by visiting National Basketball Association athletes as well as Milwaukee Bucks players to pay the debt service on the bonding.....

“But I’m still opposed to any state funding for a new downtown Milwaukee arena.”
Bingo!!
I like Cruz, too, but wonder a bit about him on foreign policy expertise and where he is on the financial mess in the US. I wish Jeff Sessions were running. Jindal is beginning to emerge as a strong voice.
First of all, I'd like to suggest to you that today's decaffeinated coffees taste just as good as most regular brands.
Enable a US invasion? Stadium scam?
Look, I don't 100% agree with Walker's positions on immigration or state financing for a NBA arena, but again - on both issues - I think Scott Walker is attempting to thread a needle.
That's a lot different than enabling Reconquista or a stadium scam.
“The Walker Presidential Arena” I like the sound of that.
I think Montreal’s Olympic Stadium ended up costing the city over $1 billion. It was built in the 70’s for the 1976 Olympics and the Montreal Expos. By the time the dump was paid off the Olympics were long gone and the Expos had moved to Washington. If memory serves, the retractable roof never worked properly. What a boondoggle!
The government needs to get out of the business of crony capitalism. It is the root of much corruption. I’m surprised Walker would get on this bandwagon for the benefit of oligarchs.
Why should Joe 6-pack taxpayer be put on the hook for building a venue for professional sports that will make already rich team owners and players even richer? Next time you attend a game at publicly funded stadiums or arena, show them your license and ask for your taxpayer discount. You’ll see the big wigs there who spent other people’s money in plush taxpayer paid for box seats.
Without taxpayers they’d be playing in a sandlot, because investors won’t waste money on a field of dreams without a financial return. There is no return on pro sports unless taxpayers are subsidizing. I’m sick of this sports scam played on Americans by both Parties.
I like Scott Walker, but this is disappointing. The government should NEVER be paying money for sports stadiums, under any circumstance.
Yup. They’re often based on very dubious economics; namely, that the money spent on tickets, food, drinks, etc. will not come at the expense of another local establishment. People don’t magically get more discretionary income just because a stadium is built.
Especially anything associated with the Bucks. Seriously, who wants to go to Milwaukee for anything?
Exactly. Most people who use areas and stadiums are local. As such they’re simply shifting money from one form of entertainment to another. I’ve gotten into shouting matches with people over who the Detroit Red Wings real competition is. It isn’t the Toronto Maple Leafs or Chicago Blackhawks, it’s the Detroit Pistons, locally shown movies and concerts. All of these things compete in metro Detroit for local people’s entertainment dollars. It’s the same in any other city, be it Milwaukee, New York or Kansas City.
There are very few staged events where a significant number of outsiders come and with them new money into a particular region. The Final Four, Super Bowl and a handful of college Bowl games are the only events that bring in outside fans and money. These occasional events, which might come to a city once every few years at the most, don’t make spending hundreds of millions on a stadium worthwhile.
and quite frankly there is no “extra” space downtown for another even larger arena.
all this money for a building for a game that in any big picture scenario, doesn’t mean anything important.
ThugBall shouldn’t be sponsored by a conservative governor. Not as it currently exists. And who currently takes it as their own. (Not a racist statement.....a cultural statement)
So is it becoming, Scott Walker v Jeb Bush. What kind of name is “Jeb” anyway? The funny thing is the MSM are running all kinds of puff pieces on Jeb, even though he STILL only has 8% in then polls even after Romney backing out!
