Dont pick a political fight with Pope Francis? The title of Rachel Lus recent essay and the timidity behind it reminds me of a old Jewish joke.
Max and Moishe are being escorted to the execution chamber in a Nazi prison. In a sudden gesture of defiance, Max raises his arm and gives the guards his middle finger. Horrified, Moishe pulls his arm down and blurts, Please, Max, dont make waves.
Just so all the reflexive excuses for Pope Francis dismaying behavior and increasingly obvious ideological bent. Lu forgets there exists such a thing as a loyal opposition. She cites criticism of Francis as evidence of a war. A Republican war at that. Doing so, she strays into the same reductive trap set by the mainstream media that she wants conservatives to avoid.

Any way we could bring Benedict XV back from retirement?
Whoops. I meant Benedict XVI.
I think the Catholic Church was in too much of a hurry to elect a Pope from South America.
They succumbed to the same leftist liberal bullcrap that saddled America with the greatest threat to our survival we've ever faced.
Blood and souls of prosecuted and murdered Greco-Catholic priests and people in Eastern Europe and Ukraine are crying for justice.
I see your point. At least we can vote every four years and Obama will leave in 2 or less years. I suppose God can take out a Pope when the purpose has been accomplished whatever that may be. The problem is a Pope is quoted as spokesman for the whole of Chritianity and when a Pope is faithful to scripture I have been thankful to have that affirming influence. Popes like this one distract and detract from Truth.
This one certainly seems both confusing and confused. Big Media routinely misrepresents him (knowingly, IMO) but he gives them ample opportunity, and even in context he seems more than a bit 'left of center'.

I agree. Working in the trenches at the Parish level, I pray and let the Holy Spirit handle those issues. At a teen Confirmation retreat this weekend, it was pretty much Christ centered.

Ill rely on Christs promise that the gates of hell will not prevail over the Church.

RI Bishop: Synod Process is ‘Rather Protestant’

Pope Francis is fond of creating a mess. Mission accomplished, Bishop Thomas Tobin said.
He argued against what he called the popes suggestion that the Church accommodate the needs of the age. If that happens, he wrote, the Church risks the danger of losing its courageous, counter-cultural, prophetic voice, a voice that the world needs to hear.

When His Holiness Pope Paul VI saw that he fruits of Vatican II was alienation from its original intent, with heartbroken words he said he had the feeling that from some fissure the smoke of Satan has entered into the temple of God
It seems that now with Pope Francis the smoke from Hell entered the Church by the front door of the Vatican embraced to the liberation theology.
Jesuits are to Catholicism what Harvard law grads are to American government.
” What is Francis, if not an ideologue?”
But not an ideological Catholic.
“Jesuits are to Catholicism what Harvard law grads are to American government.”
Very true, very true.
Pope Francis count on Honduran Oscar Cardinal Madariaga to fulfill his radical liberal agenda - Marxist liberation theology is in.
Cardinal Maradiagas Poisonous Fruit

Cardinal Maradiaga makes his sympathies clear when he quotes as an authority on the morality of international investment the Swiss radical Jean Ziegler a longtime defender of Fidel Castro, who has called the United States an imperialist dictatorship
According Madariaga, The effects and consequences of the neoliberal dictatorships that rule democracies are not hard to uncover: they invade us with the industry of entertainment, they make us forget about human rights, they convince us that nothing can be done, that there is no possible alternative. To change the system, it would be necessary to destroy the power of the new feudal lords.
