Vatican City, January 26 - Pope Francis on Saturday received in a private audience a Spanish transsexual and his girlfriend after the man wrote to him saying he had been cast out of the church in his native city, Spanish daily Hoy reported Monday. The transgender male, Diego Neria Lejarraga, a 48-year-old former woman, wrote to the pope some time ago saying he had been "marginalised" by Church officials in the city of Plasencia, in the southwestern region of Estremadura, Hoy said. Neria, a believer and a practising Catholic, said he had been rebuffed by elements of the local clergy and claimed the parish priest had called him "the Devil's daughter", Hoy reported. Francis phoned him twice in December, setting up Saturday''s meeting in St Martha's House, the Vatican guesthouse the pontiff lives in, Hoy said. The pope has said the Catholic Church should be more accepting of gays but recently failed to muster a big enough majority of cardinals to change doctrine on the issue. Asked about the reported meeting, official Vatican sources declined to comment.
Next thing you know, Francis will be hanging out with prostitutes.
Accepting??? No. Willing to help them change and come to God. Yes.
Tolerance is a great evil. I get it, but the Pope, come on!
Former woman? Still a woman, now with optional parts sewn on.
well its easy to see what happened now..
benedict was ‘retired’ so the communists could take over
It’s a free for all folks. Do whatever you want. Party down!!
If a man has his organ lopped off, and gets implants and hormones, and lets his hair grow, and then takes up with a (real) woman and has sex, is he having normal sex or lesbian sex?
What if it’s with another “transsexual” (male to female)? Is he having gay sex?
How about if it’s with a female to male “transsexual”? Is that gay sex or normal sex?
I’m so confused by all this. It used to be really simple.
So a ‘former woman’ who is - somehow - now a man goes to the pope with ‘his girlfriend’
Is his girlfriend a born woman or a man who has been turned into a woman? Or a man who acts like a woman - or???
I get so confused.
The fact that the pope met with these people is not significant in itself - as you are obliquely pointing out, Christ spent most of His time with sinners. But the consistent message Christ delivered was that sinners should forsake their sin - not that society should accept their sin as normal.
So what will be more interesting will be what message comes out from Francis about the lifestyle this woman has chosen - does he think it should be accepted and embraced, or does he call for those in these cases to come to repentance and a change of their path?
“Next thing you know, Francis will be hanging out with prostitutes.”
Or maybe he will give Pelousey “absolution” for her stand on abortion!
Jesus didn’t exactly ‘hang out with prostitutes’, but he did meet with them publically.
Ok, I have to admit this made me laugh out loud.
Not that I don't have concerns, I do.
SOMES...
Nuns are all natural.. Somes have appendages sewed on..
the habit could leather jackets.. and helmuts..
Next thing you know, Francis will be hanging out with prostitutes.
Jesus did. I really believe that Pope Francis is the closest person to Jesus we have seen in history. He is incredibly amazing with his absoluteness to Jesus. It is uncanny.
How would a surgeried transexual do repentance? Dress as a woman?
Jesus didnt exactly hang out with prostitutes, but he did meet with them publicly.
Exactly as the Pope is doing.
I wonder if the couple of today will have the same contrite, full of remorse, spirit as the sinners Jesus met with in his days on earth?
You’re giving me hope for this Pope (not Catholic, wanna be Chassid).
We will never know. It is not our business either.
Interesting question. Would another surgery to return her body to the original configuration be necessary? Or just stop taking the hormones that give her body its masculine features, and live her life as a woman as God created her? But continuing to live as a man, particularly with a "girlfriend", would certainly not qualify as repentance.
