I just posted that same quote on a FB group I’m a member of. I opened an Etsy store to sell simple little baby items; bibs and burp cloths mostly. Until I discovered that those items are regulated by the US Gov’t. All children’s items are regulated by the US Gov’t. They must all be permanently tagged and tracked. They must all be tested for lead and safety unless they meet a very limited list of materials. To avoid testing you must register as a small batch generator and then you can use the certs that the manufacturers have for their testing of the individual materials that you use to make your finished product. Some items aren’t allowed to be made anymore, like jackets with drawstrings, because over the 25 years that they gov’t tracked a whopping 18 people died and 35 people were injured by drawstrings. You know those little fabric “bags” with rice or popcorn or buckwheat hulls in them that you can toss in the microwave to warm up and use them as heating pads? Those are now considered a “medical device” and as such must be approved by the FDA. And, if you make them you must register your business as a medical equipment manufacturer. I closed my shop.

Dear Lord, that is unbelievable!! Sickening. No wonder people can’t start new businesses or have to close the ones they already have. New [stupid] regulations cover almost everything you can think of. I’m sorry that happened to you!
