A pollster at last weeks GOP congressional retreat summarized the proposals President Obama made last night as free stuff for everyone. Indeed, on everything from enhanced child-care tax credits to free community college the president was in a Santa Claus kind of mood in this month after Christmas. All of the proposals enjoy majority support in polls although that support tends to fall after people weigh the price tag.
Take paid sick leave. Obama mentioned that wherever the issue was on the ballot this fall it passed when people voted on it. But he was careful not to mention that the only state where it was on the ballot was Massachusetts. Yes, the state that hasnt sent a single Republican to the U.S. House in 20 years and consistently votes Democratic for president by about ten points more than the rest of the country. Question 4, the Massachusetts ballot measure that mandated paid sick leave in the state, did pass but with only 60 percent of the vote meaning that after a real debate the issue might be an even split nationwide.
Republicans need to make a sustained argument that paid sick leave is yet another mandate on small- and medium-sized businesses that they can ill afford just as they are being buffeted by the gales of Obamacare.
” Nobody will pay any real attention to the problems, only to the national problem of cheating football teams, ”
Even here in Freerepublic - did you see the number of comments in that story?
Thanks for posting that - Jefferson would not recognize his country.
Obama knows he can pledge anything to the sheeples without the bother of having to deliver anything.
When nothing materializes he can and will blame Boner and McConnell.
This will be the base for the '16 Dem campaign - they need to take back House and Senate, and retain the WH or those evil Republicans will starve us all...
Good. Thanx
If the pandering "talking points" laid out last night by this President were laid out alongside Jefferson's eloquent listing of the "essential ideas" of liberty, as itemized in his First Inaugural, then many Americans might begin to understand how far America has drifted away from its foundations in freedom.
Circulating Jefferson's words to as many citizens as we can between now and 2016 might go a long way toward "enlightening" the minds of many.
After all, they simply may not have thought through the appropriate Constitutional role of the American President, as well as the other branches of government which "the People's" Constitution limited, structured, divided, separated, checked and balanced in order to protect individual liberty of citizens against invasions by elected and appointed representatives in that government.
They have telegraphed the game plan for Nov 2016.
Elizabeth Warren will be portrayed by the journ-0-lists as an intrepid grandmother fighting for the middle class against Wall $treet and Big Banks.

I agree - but first it would have to be translated into 4th grade English to have most of our population understand it.
“When a government offers free everything, someone is getting robbed or enslaved.”
Very true. In addition, the recipient is enslaved to the theiving redistributer! There is not a single net gain on either side of the argument....
However, the elitist gains a ton by enslaving both parties in the transaction....

Our party is now 100% crony capitalism.
