The U.S. ocean, atmospheric and space agencies affirmed on Friday what the planet has been telling us every way it knows how: 2014 was the hottest year since record keeping began in 1880.
That means average land and sea temperatures, worldwide, have never been hotter in modern times, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (the gold standard for global climate data) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (the guys who put a man on the moon).
This isn't about whether we believe in science: It's about whether we believe the thermometer.
In fact, the 16 hottest years on record have all occurred since 1997, the new data confirm, contributing to widening deserts, rising seas, withering drought, ravaging storms, blistering heat and other climate change impacts reaching from the tiniest African village to our own backyards.
Here in the United States, Arizona, Nevada, Alaska and California all wrapped up their hottest years on record. California remains mired in the grip of a three-year drought, its worst in centuries. The Northeast is still rebuilding from Hurricane Sandy. And that was just one of the climate-related disasters that cost this country an estimated $139 billion in damages in 2012 alone....

From that article:
Among the errors of the complex climate models that the simple model exposes are the following
Once errors like these are corrected, the most likely global warming in response to a doubling of CO2 concentration is not 3.3 Cº but 1 Cº or less. Even if all available fossil fuels were burned, less than 2.2 C° warming would result.
- The assumption that temperature feedbacks would double or triple direct manmade greenhouse warming is the largest error made by the complex climate models. Feedbacks may well reduce warming, not amplify it.
- The Bode system-gain equation models mutual amplification of feedbacks in electronic circuits, but, when complex models erroneously apply it to the climate on the IPCCs false assumption of strongly net-amplifying feedbacks, it greatly over-predicts global warming. They are using the wrong equation.
- Modellers have failed to cut their central estimate of global warming in line with a new, lower feedback estimate from the IPCC. They still predict 3.3 C° of warming per CO2 doubling, when on this ground alone they should only be predicting 2.2 C° about half from direct warming and half from amplifying feedbacks.
- Though the complex models say there is 0.6 C° manmade warming in the pipeline even if we stop emitting greenhouse gases, the simple model confirmed by almost two decades without any significant global warming shows there is no committed but unrealized manmade warming still to come.
- There is no scientific justification for the IPCCs extreme RCP 8.5 global warming scenario that predicts up to 12 Cº global warming as a result of our industrial emissions of greenhouse gases.

they lie!!!
Southern California hasn’t had a summer in at least 8 years.
What BS... Earth’s HOTTEST YEAR? I was talking to my brother in Maine and it didn’t go past 95° this summer. A normal summer has about 6 days 95+°.
January 19, 1977, snow was in Tampa, Florida...yesterday (writing on the 20th of January), it was cool...if 2014 was the hottest wiyldnt it be 95° today? (Going to be around 75 today).
Right, The Earth is four billion years old and since the last year was the supposedly the hottest since 1880, some 134 years ago, It wasn’t, we are all certain the World is ending.
Who said that the last two hundred years is the optimal climate for the Earth anyway?
Your post warms my heart. Jurinalists, indeed.
Well, in my little slice of central Idaho, 2014 was the warmest year on record since I started keeping track in 2008. I have a personal weather station on a mountain top at 6000’. There are no parking lots or city streets to affect the temperature, just forest and open country for miles. From 2008 to 2014 the average temperatures were: 36.2, 39.1, 39.1, 38.1, 40.5, 39.9, 40.9. You can look at the data if you like, just Google KIDGRANG2. The same did not hold true in my back yard, however. Both 2008 and 2012 were warmer than 2014. We often have inversions in the winter and it will be 10 degrees colder at 3000’ than at 6000’. That, of course, isn’t enough data to mean anything, but it’s fun to look at.
And, FWIW, I’m all in favor of global warming. If you look at the long term climate of the earth, it’s either warming or cooling. I’d a whole lot rather deal with warming...
The average surface temperature for the entire planet is around 58 degrees F.
About six years ago, the area of California I live in, experienced one of the mildest summers I've seen in the 45 years I've lived here. Early morning fog seemed to stick around most of the spring and summer months, up until around July.
There were a few normal spells, but other than that it was a downright impossible year for sun-tans unless you could spend your day at the beach, the only place you can get a tan even on a cool day.
Did the climate hoax folks address that? No. They prattled on about other matters, as if this didn't occur. These folks are not on the up and up.
Any thinking person can pick their premises apart
California remains mired in the grip of a three-year drought, its worst in centuries.
Isn't that interesting? Centuries ago it was hotter than it is now. That's right, it was hotter without automobiles, massive industry, and probably three fourths of the cows we have today. How could that be? All I know is that right here in their own propaganda is their own undoing.
Global warming took place long before us, and it will take place long after us. Global cooling took place long before us, and it will also take place after us.
The Northeast is still rebuilding from Hurricane Sandy. And that was just one of the climate-related disasters that cost this country an estimated $139 billion in damages in 2012 alone...
And guess what, earthquakes come along and cost us hundreds of billions too. Strangely enough, they haven't found a way to blame that on us yet. I'm sure they're working on it.
As for hurricane Sandy, it wasn't the first to hit up north. It has happened before. The only reason there was so much damage, is because there are more people and property, and those properties cost more to replace in today's dollars. Big whoop.
As of this moment, there is still no definitive proof man has contributed to global warming.
Glaceiers used to come all the way down through Yosemite Valley. What did man do to cause those to melt?
Oh that's right, he did nothing at all to influence it.
In the spin-laden political environment we all exist within, there are lies, there are damn lies, and there are "statistics", and the hysterical global warming propagandists are trying to convince us (with statistics, no less) that "the sky is falling", by citing "facts" which don't even fall outside the measurement's margin of error.
Thus, the claim they breathlessly make has no scientific validity.
It truly takes a statist to rely on such statistics...
Heh.
Hey, remember all those hurricanes we were gonna get because Al Gore said so?
OK!! Everybody pay attention!
Lesson for today:
1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.
2. The sun is a ball of fire that controls the climates of all its planets.
3. The earth is one of the suns planets.
4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.
5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.
Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?
The revolving door.
Thanks for the perspective.
That is what I heard too.
Yah, a half century ago. They can't even put one in orbit now. We're supposed to believe anything technical from a group of government bureaucrats who's primary goal is Muslim outreach?
Not really, over the past 20 years, 1934 has cooled considerably: https://stevengoddard.wordpress.com/2014/06/23/noaanasa-dramatically-altered-us-temperatures-after-the-year-2000/
