Seahawks rally stuns Packers 28-22 in OT for NFC title
Posted on 01/18/2015 4:51:52 PM PST by djf
Never doubt the resilience of the Seattle Seahawks.
Plagued by turnovers and outplayed much of Sunday by Green Bay, the Seahawks staged an improbable comeback and beat the Packers 28-22 in overtime. Russell Wilson, who struggled until the final minutes, hit Jermaine Kearse for a 35-yard touchdown 3:19 into the extra period on the only possession.
The Seahawks became the first defending champion to make the Super Bowl in 10 years, and will play the winner of the AFC title game between Indianapolis and New England. How they got there was stunning.

I support the OT rules for the reason that in the old days all a team had to do was win the toss, and kick a field goal.Under the sudden death rules the team that won the coin toss in overtime won the game less than 60% of the time.
If you lost the coin toss, it was up to your defense to win the game for you.

I think New England is going to blow out Seattle.

There was no "comeback." It was a complete disintegration. Seattle had very little to do with it until the overtime, and it never should have reached that point.
If you play like this against the Patriots, it will be a replay of last years Superbowl, with Seattle on the Humiliation end of the outcome.

I would support playing an entire quarter in OT. Let everyone share their 15 minutes. As would I. Or at least, something similar to the college rules, where both teams get a chance to possess the ball.

That “stat” has only come with the advent of the “no win” if first score is a field goal rule. Prior to that rule change, the team winning the flip was favored 7:4.

"Nothing brilliant by the invincible Seahawks; who today looked very very beatable indeed."
No one called them invincible, and every team in the NFL is beatable by just about any other team.
To: llevrok
You've got to be joking.
The game was Green Bay all the way: Green Bay's dominance for 3.7 quarters, and Green Bay's collapse in the last 0.3 quarters. If you Seattle fans are "savoring" what you "accomplished" today get ready to savor being destroyed in two weeks. You were awful until the overtime period, which you wouldn't have gotten except for Green Bay's total collapse in regulation.

Seattle actually had more first downs and gained nearly 100 yards more than GB. Marshawn Lynch ran for something like 150 yards. The five turnovers were what put them in a hole, and they are unlikely to do that again. By the way, they beat GB 36-16 earlier in the year, they beat Denver, they beat Philadelphia, they beat San Francisco twice, Carolina twice, and Arizona twice. They were in the four games they lost until the final minutes.

I tried to eat some cheese today but started choking on it 😜.
Aaron Rodgers was 4-0 in their Superbowl year.
He is 2-5 in their other playoff games.

And today, you were beatable by any NFL team. You folks are in trouble if you think you can play that way against the Pats.

My old roommate had a subscription through DirecTV for Setanta Sports so he could slingbox the live feed of the soccer matches to his shop for all his European machinists... I got sucked into the Rugby matches they would televise on that channel... turned me off from fairy primadonna BORING NFL forever.

Yet the Hawks beat the Packers. No one in Seattle thinks the Hawks can turn the ball over 5 times and win the Super Bowl, but no one thinks they will turn the ball over 5 times.

Seattle actually had more first downs and gained nearly 100 yards more than GB. This statistic means nothing; you turned the ball over with decent field position to GB, so they needed fewer yards to score. Many of your "yards" ended in turnovers, so they were nothing but ball control for Green Bay's benefit.
They were in the four games they lost until the final minutes.
If typing that makes you feel better about today's absolute disaster, by all means keep posting it.
The fact is, the way the National Passing League has incrementally changed the rules to favor the offense -- and especially the pass -- just about every team in every game can claim they were competitive right up to the whistle.
There is a technical term for "nearly winning." It's called: losing.
The Packers "nearly won" today, and were tied at the final second of the regulation game. How do you think they feel about "nearly winning?"

Which team beat both of the 2015 Super Bowl teams? That honor goes to the Kansas City Chiefs.

"I think New England is going to blow out Seattle."
Already decided not to sit and watch, just record in case something interesting happens.
But, how many SB games in recent years have been pathetically one-sided blowouts?
Got to kill the NFL in their groveling for advertising for the next year. Only close games generate enthusiasm for the next season.

Winning the NFC title game is an absolute disaster? You need to either stop drinking or start drinking, I'm not sure which.
I mentioned the Seahawk's results to suggest that they are not the 0-16 team that you are trying to paint them as.

"That and a nickel will buy a nice hot cup of Jack Squat."
To me, it suggests they aren't far off from being a Super Bowl contender.
