Manicured lawns contribute to global warming by producing greenhouse gases

London: A new study has recently revealed that manicured lawns are major source of greenhouse gases, which contribute to global warming.

Grass lawns soak up carbon dioxide, which is stored in the soil after the cut grass rots and so, like trees, they are considered good for the planet. But Dr. Chuanhui Gu of Appalachian State University in the US said that once the energy expended by mowing, fertilizer use and watering are taken into account, lawns actually produce more greenhouse gases than they soak up.

The study is published in the Journal of Environmental Management.

They want us to use these...

What they really want is for us to buy carbon credits from third world countries. Read up on the "flexibility mechanisms" in the Kyoto Protocal. This whole global warming scam is nothing more than an attempt of a massive transfer of wealth from rich countries to poor ones.

We need an executive order to ban golf courses.
I expect to hear this in the SOTU on Tuesday.

I thought that smell coming my pile of grass clippings was nitrogen. Nitrogen, by the way, comprises something like 75% of our atmosphere whereas CO2 only comprises something like 1%.

Good, the CO2 makes the grass grow better.

Take out the word grass and put in the word Prius and you have the same result.

These lunatics hate anything that makes life more pleasant.

When I first moved (and promptly left) to North Carolina a few years ago, it was July. I had a pretty large yard and coming from Arizona I was loving the grass. The front yard was doing OK but I, pretty quickly, had the back yard turning to sand as it was over 100 degrees for about a week.

I was out there watering like a maniac. Thinking, "Hey, you can pretty much wring the water out of the air here"

So, I get my first water bill. It was about $500. I am thinking, "Must be an error because I have never had a water bill over $60 in Arizona grass or no grass and with pools"

I call the city and she gives me an attitude. Says to me, "You want all that green grass, well green grass is expensive. That bill is correct"

Leftists, envy, misery -- it all goes together to build places like North Korea. Not much grass there.

CO2 only comprises something like 1%.

Only comprises .04% (four hundredths of a percent, 400 parts per million, .0004 of the total atmosphere) In other words....nothing.

Thanks for the assist. I knew it was a low number.

And besides, even if the rotting grass clippings does emit CO2, the remaining grass uses that as food to convert it into oxygen which mammals inhale and then we exhale CO2.

It's almost as if it's a cycle.

Lotsa local gov’ts will enforce their “right” to not let you turn your front yard into a vegetable garden.

For oxygen sustainability, everyone needs to live on an acre or more of their own. City dwellers need to go away.
