During Robert E. Lee's 100th birthday in 1907, Charles Francis Adams, Jr., a former Union Commander and grandson of US President John Quincy Adams, spoke in tribute to Robert E. Lee at Washington and Lee College's Lee Chapel in Lexington, Virginia. His speech was printed in both Northern and Southern newspapers and is said to had lifted Lee to a renewed respect among the American people.

Its tough discussing these things with Bubba Spivey, because his mind is focused on making it out to the weeds to wipe his brains on Lees personal journals. LOL! :)
Well, I'll leave it at this: This issue it seems that the slavery card has been pushed and played so hard and long, many people, even a good number of our allies have been brainwashed and all critical thinking has stopped. I often wonder how the War Between the States was taught in schools back 120 years ago, 100 years ago, or even 70 years ago.

Yeah, in my case, I was born in Pennsylvania and most of my ancestors were not here until 1880 at the earliest. Some of my ancestors on my father's side also were mistreated too, my great grandmother was a Russian Jew who suffered under the pogroms twice until she made it over here. BTW, the South also had many prominent Jews and a rich Jewish history until the Klan got fired up. I know, slavery was a part of the war but it was just a part, not the whole picture.
If you think about it, if the "Spiveys" (I'd ping them all but I just added "All" in the To: line) were British, circa 1770/1780, they would use the same logic where the Founding Fathers and the people who fought for the American Revolution as traitors. I guess is some cases, it is all relative, I'm sure the world would be different if we lost the Revolution, the Confederates have won or the Soviets made it to the Moon first, the question if it being better or worse off well, that's speculation.

I read an interview with Rommel's son within the last couple of years where this issue was addressed. I have to agree that much has been fabricated as to Forrest's actions having been studied by Rommel and Guderian but the German War College were well aware of Forrest's tactics and taught them. Guderian integrated the tactics within Blitzkrieg.

Another thanks to some one who posts useful information about Lee. Nicely done

If the slavery card as the cause for the Civil War embarrasses you, blame the southerners who created a deck with 51 cards marked "slavery" and one card marked "tariffs and stuff."

Your posts speak for themselves. And given your predilection for talking about leather boots, you probably have one of those shirtless Putin pics hanging above your desk. “Man’s man” and all.

You really do try too hard to impress. You may be a good jet jockey but you really don’t know your history.

pretty funny statement coming from someone who basically has said if one honors Lee then you HAVE to be a George Wallace loving, slavery supporting segregationist
Talk about invective. Why not try to stick to at least the argument at hand

Yes this thread is a memorial to a great Southern leader and hero. So all of us in the South are happy to reflect on that and thank God that most of these hysterical nut jobs that have shown up probably don’t have an extra can of chili in the pantry and will be in the first die off when the SHTF. LOL!

You’re so smart...perhaps you can tell me what you know about my opinion of Lee as an officer or American. I don’t recall enlightening you or anyone else on this board about it. Perhaps you are a mind reader ???
