I make a point of taking my business to places that do NOT have multilingual signs or phone messages, particularly Spanish. I resent having a foreign language foisted on me in my own country.

I make an exception for tourist-oriented businesses. One place where we really ought to have multilingual signs and don’t is in the subway (like they do in most European countries). But that would require effort on the part of the government, as opposed to having the government imposing onerous requirements on us.

And btw, I can speak passable Spanish, along with several other languages, and I am an (unpaid) ESL teacher. So, no, I am not a “hater.”

I would guess a white lefty. The idea that people with food stamps, who are supposed to be poor, would have to pay for bags with cash is just too absurd.

We need your help to keep the lights on.
FR is funded solely by contributions made by
liberty loving people who enjoy and use it.

Every donation counts no matter how big or small.
If you can donate $5, $10, $20, $100 or more,
it would be greatly appreciated.

I’m sympathetic to the idea, but I hate to punish the store for the idiocy of the government.

I’d like to see some sort of creative protest directed at the morons who voted for this. Something entirely legal, but that would cause them perpetual annoyance on a daily basis, similar to what they inflict on us.

People can buy their own “eco-friendly” grocery bags by the box... 1,000 bags for $38.34

Well ... basically because Spanish is about to become the majority language, while those other two are not ... :-) ...

Nope, the Dallas power structure always likes to stay behind the scenes. At one point they cleared the way for him to be mayor without having to run for the office. It’s the same dude who gave Michael Vick the key to the city while he was still on parole.

The totalitarians haven't a clue of the power of citizen nullification.
The law can't possibly enforce the customers' decision to buy and use plastic bags.

As usual, the current socialist mindset is incapable of accepting the limitations of the Constitution, and the fundamental assumptions accepted as the foundation of human rights and the inviolability of those "self-evident truths."

I strongly recommend Judge Napolitano's Book, Suicide Pact for an extensive, but ,alas, incomplete analysis of the Executive branch Constitutional and extra-Constitutional powers.

Although this plastic bags business is trivial in the big picture, it is the incremental abuse that eventually finds the country in unexpected financial and social straightjackets and effective despotism.

Bottom line, all citizens are minutely controlled as the result of the abuse and cluelessness of the few. The Bureaucratic mind is never known for perspicacity and restraint.

The sad average and falling IQ of federal elected leadership and the hundreds of thousands of laws old and new continues to grow, and the electorate (citizens) are similarly pretty much clueless.

Up in AZ and NV, lots of luck with that - even McDonald's has dual language. I'm at the point of making up small round labels in red, white and blue with "This is America, we speak English" on them and start pasting them where I can.

On my really cranky days, when I'm in places like Wal-Mart, I'll swap some dual-label boxes around so the the English side faces the customer. (When I worked there as a night-stocker some years back, the Mexican guys were facing them with the Spanish sides out.)

“I thought a bag law pertained to ugly wimmen in bars”

The proverbial 3 bagger?

One for her, one for you in case her’s falls off, and one to set by the door in case a buddy stops by and catches you in the act.

Some people might think those actions are small and petty. I don’t. I think they are an “army of one” protest that needs to catch on. If we can’t make ourselves heard in the legislatures and the courts, we need to make ourselves heard in everyday life, in stores and restaurants, in parking lots and libraries, in whatever ways we can. (Library and bookstore tip: turn liberal propaganda books around so the spine (title) is not visible. Or move them from the political section to the fantasy section.)

Stay cranky!

Desided since I reuse the plastic ones for trash, I decided to purchase a lot at Amazon. I will use them until the trash police inspect each trash can to see if they are used. Then I’m sure I will be fined and they will no longer pick up my trash.

My current plan is as follows (California.) My local grocery store I believe will be happy to sell me a dozen or so rolls of their plastic bags (several thousand?)

That should be enough to wait for things to shake out.
For many years I have recycled plastic bags for dog and kitty litterbox refuse. I can't imagine, even the damaged bureaucratic mind would require me to use paper bags instead, which make odor control pretty much imposssile (and inherently unhealthy.)

Indeed. I had that twinge of conscience for a moment or two, but I am SO damned fed up with this multicultural B/S that it is one small manifestation of my resentment. I felt better about it any way.

[Sidebar] When I worked at W-M I did the same. One night a manager saw me and asked why I was fooling around with stock already on the shelves. I told him why. I also told him that some Hispanic guy had asked me why W-M thought Hispanics were too stupid to learn English and felt they had to post signs in Spanish. The manager asked what my reply was. I said I told the guy that that wasn't the case - that the execs at W-M would sell their daughters if it would improve their bottom line, so selling out their country's heritage was a no-brainer. The manager just walked away.

Texas is becoming more Kaliforniafied each day.

Look out, Oklahoma! In a decade or so you will be inundated with former Texans.

Walmart tried to absorb the fee for food stamp recipients, but this is illegal - the food stamp recipients have to pay out of pocket.

Damn Walmart, how unfeeling can a company get?

As always, Walmart finds a new low.

Wal-Mart tried to not make EBTers pay cash for bags, the city forced them to.

No, I’m sure it’s Walmart’s fault.

At least that’s what I’ve been told about Walmart’s strict adherence to not working too many hours.
