“Because of the high taxes on Washington’s legal pot, Seitz says stores can never compete with the black market while paying growers sustainable prices.”

Looks like some of the arguments for legal pot are up in smoke.

The only way to make this work is to cut taxes.

If it’s legal there is no way to tax or control it.

Anyone can figure out how to grow a dozen big plants a year, and 12 big plants will keep a doper deep-fried and tie-dyed 24/7/365!

because of the high taxes....

I detest all drugs, legal and illegal. When the pro-marijuana crowd kept advocating for legalization, I kept asking why they wanted marijuana to be legal. That would mean it would be taxed, regulated, and potency would be dictated. The only reason the gov legalizes anything is to tax and control it.

So now my question is: It's a weed. What's to stop people from growing their own, now that it's legal?

“If they don’t tax it too much” was always the addendum to how legal pot would under cut the black market. Also keep in mind the way Washington “legalized” pot (only in state run stores, of which there are very few) was always going to present problems. There are good reasons they got rid of the state store limitations for booze, which they apparently forgot about when legalizing pot.
