The United States has been at war with radical Islamist terrorism for at least 35 years, starting with the November 1979 Iranian seizure of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran and taking of 52 American hostages...
For the next two decades, radical Islamist terrorism grew more powerful and more sophisticated...
Congress should investigate:
1. The current strength and growth rate of radical Islamists around the world. We need a detailed sense of the total picture. The scale of the threat from this nihilistic global movement, I suspect, will be stunning.
2. The country-by-country danger. Americans simply dont realize how dire the situation is in specific areas. Boko Haram has killed thousands more people in Nigeria alone than Ebola has in all of Africa, according to data compiled by the Council on Foreign Relations and the Centers for Disease Control. One or more hearings should focus on each center of radical Islamism, including Somalia, Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
3. The role of the Muslim Brotherhood. The group is vital to the global radical Islamist movement, yet so little understood by Washington elites that it deserves its own set of hearings.
4. The primary sources of radical Islamist funding, especially Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Iran.
5. The Arab countriesincluding Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia and Algeriathat have successfully contained and minimized radical Islamists. We must learn how this was accomplished and what aspects should be replicated.
6. Radicalization in mosques and on social media. How are young Muslims being drawn into terrorism? What can be done to counter a seductive message that has reached deep into Europe and the U.S. and inspired jihadists by the thousands to travel to the Middle East for terrorist training that can be exported back home?
7. The Islamist cyberthreat...

Nope...dates back to the Barbary Pirates.
One could make a case the world has been at war with Islam since it's inception.
We’re not losing.
I think of it as a drag race between a stock pinto and a funny car.
The pinto just got the green light first.
Why Were Losing to Radical Islam
________________________________________________
Why? Barack Hussein Obama. That’s why.
Newt is correct in all his points. But the bottom line is that any county that would elect (twice) a Radical Islamist is going to lose to Radical Islam.
And his solution is for Congress to hold hearings?
European P.C., and our inability to keep terrorists out of the WH, makes for a gloomy scenario.
I remember that event in 1979. BUSHS FAULT!
The White Hut is a muzzie no-go zone.
I was referring to Obama.
Islam has been at war with the world since its inception...it started with raids on camel trains and then progressed to attacks on entire cities. Great role model, that Mohammed.
That said, I do think we’re losing, but I don’t think Congressional hearings are the answer.
We need to reaffirm our own principles - from either our Christian background or our Enlightenment background - and simply say that Islam is incompatible with them and there is simply no place for it in our society.
Handicap start by a willfully handicap administration.
Pretty much.
Just don’t mention Grover Al Norquist.
Losing because of the imposter at the white house.
Good points!
And I believe the RC Church started the Cristian Crusades 900+ years ago.
Succinct and to the point. It continues to amaze me that I have acquaintances who still support BHO as President.
The Crusades were begun as a reaction (much like today) against the horrible slaughter going on in the Middle East by ‘Mohammedans’. They were lopping off heads then too. Look at the battles of the 14th century when several European nobles lost their heads to these Muslims. I think it was in Niccea. I should look it up.
Do NOT blame the Christians for beginning the Crusades. Blame the instigators, the Muslims.
Why?
Because we still insist that Islam is a ROP while there is very little evidence of it.
Seen any Muslim countries as a good migration target lately?
Part of the reason we are losing, Newt is that you and people like you see the war with Islam as having started 35 years ago with the Iranian hostage assault.
Radical Islam has been at war with the non-Radical Islam world for about a hundred years. Before that, they tried to “evolve” the nations they dwelled within to accept Islam.
It was after the Bolshevik revolution that that the Radical Islamists came to accept that the only way they could win was through massive violence and holding the nations of the world in complete terror at the point of a sword or gun.
They won’t succeed in the end, but this has given them the impetus to attack the world for a hundred years.
Lothrop Stoddard wrote accurately and prophetically about this in the 1920’s in “The New World of Islam.” It’s a shame that people today anachronistically accuse him of being some sort of white supremacist when much of what he wrote about at the time was in accordance with popular cultural studies.
Newt, you can’t win a war by just seeing what the enemy is doing to you. You have to understand what is driving them and how deeply that drive is rooted.
It is only then can you make the moral decision that, if they are not going to coexist, then we have a right to terminate their existence until they are either all gone or they accept our terms of peace.
But we know how the Islamofascists use truces as strategic retreats to regroup. So I think the civilized world needs to wake up and realize that, for the good of humanity, it is time to completely eradicate Radical Islam from the planet.
