More than 50 patients have died after an NHS trust introduced a secret policy to downgrade 999 calls and not to send ambulances to terminally ill patients.
Managers at East of England ambulance trust were accused of the most cruel form of rationing imaginable after admitting that 8,000 patients had been affected by the changes.
An internal NHS report discloses that 57 patients died after their calls were downgraded following a decision not to send ambulances to the terminally ill and to those who had given instructions not to resuscitate.
It meant that, instead of receiving a response from paramedics in eight minutes, people reporting life-threatening illnesses were given a call back up to 20 minutes later, or had to wait up to an hour for an ambulance.
Welcome to another glimpse into the healthcare future of the United States once Obamacare implodes and the idiot progressives find a way to give us the gift of single-payer. It is a dystopian nightmare that gives bureaucrats with barely functioning intellects the power to decide who lives and dies. Imagine Helen from the DMV in a job where she gets to say, “Your mom doesn’t need to hang around for another year or two, we’re gonna send this ambulance elsewhere. Oh well.” There’s your “free” government healthcare future.
Sarah Palin was excoriated for talking about “death panels” in 2008, even though rationing has always been an insidiously integral part of single-payer systems. They have to lie to hide the fact that their policies are so ghoulish, that’s why this one was secret.
Single-payer is a monstrosity that will be impossible to undo once it’s unleashed, which is why the progressives cannot be allowed to prevail on this issue.
Come on, Laz; stop holding back. Tell us how you really feel!
I called my doctor when my husband was wheezing and having trouble breathing. This was the week before Christmas, they got us in that day.
I have never called them with an emergency when they have not been able to fit us in.
You left out “silly walking”.
I wonder how many native Englishmen never even enter the field out of fear and loathing for Socialized Medicine.
Regards,
I’m sure you meant that in the nicest possible way.

Few want to be doctors now because of the increased expenses and hassle associated with Obmacare. A doctor now needs more staff to handle all the required paperwork. This cuts into the bottom line. All of my doctors are in some kind of group practice because they can't make it on their own anymore. Many of these practices are owned by the hospitals or health systems with which they are affiliated. These doctors are employees.
I notice that more and more duties traditionally performed by doctors are now being handled by nurses, nurse practitioners and physician's assistants. One day you won't see a doctor at all or you will be treated by a graduate of the University of Nigeria School of Medicine and Taxidermy. You won't be able to find a qualified American doctor who actually speaks understandable English.
That is because the real emergency number is 0118 999 881 999 119 725 3
Terrible. I pray that you can face your journey with courage and faith. I would like to ask, for future reference and because a family member went through this.
Why did, or are you, taking chemo if you are terminal? I know it is a personal decision and if you don’t answer I will understand.
You mean government saves money on medical care by providing less of it? Who would have guessed?
#4 I had a British co-worker say the same and he also denied the rationing even when I showed him stories from British papers saying people were being killed for lack of care.
Well, if a Brit likes it, I have no problem with that - it’s his system and he knows it. Generally, the problem with these health care systems is when someone gets old and ill. All of my facebook friends are generally on the youngish side. The one friend I have who is 75, does not like it much and gets treated here in the USA because he’s married to an American and has good Screen Actors Guild coverage. I don’t know how he’ll feel once Obamacare takes over.
It's not an unknown reason. Remember HillaryCare? One of her ways to reduce cost was to reduce the number of doctors, and do so by denying Certificate-of-Need for new med schools, and reducing the amount of Fed aid for medical student slots.
Depends on the paper. Like the US, tabloids here work on shrill headlines and stories that don’t quite match the headline.
The left wing Guardian dosent like the US?. Colour me shocked. Its the Guardian!. LOL
I’m Scottish.
The vast majority of UK doctors and most nurses are white British. Given 92% of the UK is white European, not really a shock. The UK has had a high % of Indian doctors (and some black African) since the 50’s, a legacy of Indian-Afro rule by us. Indian doctors esp are generally very good, the brightest in Indian schools, then highly trained in the UK.
The NHS is as one Briton famously said, the nearest thing we have to a post-ww2 state religion. Far from hate, most Britons very much support it (though not blind to its faults).
My parents are 75 and 70, and find the NHS as good as it always was. In my life, I have not encountered any serious problem with my health care (thankfully minor) or my parents. As you said, we know it, faults and all, most Americans go on what horror stories they read or are told by talk radio/Fox. Almost all have never tried it, most have never even been to the UK or abroad. And yes, the same in reverse for the US system (much maligned in the UK).
Try the Telegraph comments section. See how pro-America they are. Try the Daily Mail when it isn’t overrun with Americans.
My message to you is to get over your thin-skinnedness about FR when your own papers are a disgrace.
My 75 year old Cockney friend has lived both in the USA and Great Britain. As an older man, he now prefers the American healthcare system. This is not some great insult to your beloved NHS, England or St. George - or St. Andrew for that matter. Keep your kilt on.
