Dont buy the hype you might be reading at places like Grantland about Selmas wide release debut at the box office this weekend. The news was not good. Far from it. Especially when compared to other apples, like The Butler, J. Edgar, and W.
Box Office Mojo:
In a distant second place, Selma expanded to nearly 2,200 locations and earned an estimated $11.2 million. Compare that to Lee Daniels The Butler, which dealt with similar issues during a similar time period in U.S. history and earned over twice as much in its first weekend ($24.6 million). Selma instead wound up opening in line with disappointing political dramas J. Edgar ($11.2 million) and W. ($10.5 million).
W. went on to gross a measly $30 million. J. Edgar topped out at $37 million domestic.
Both are considered costly flops.
If theres a perfect storm during Oscar Season, Box Office Mojo sees Selmas best case box office scenario as $50 million. Yet, with an estimated $40 million budget, Selma will have to at least crack $80 to $90 million just to break even.
Selma is undoubtedly suffering a backlash created by its own historically inaccurate smearing of Lyndon Johnson combined with a country thats been thoroughly exhausted by race-race-race-race and lies-lies-lies-lies over the last couple of years.
...The filmmakers behind Selma made a huge moral and public relations error by promoting the Hands Up, Dont Shoot lie fabricated around the self-defense shooting of strong-arm robber Brown.

You have to wonder why his grave is on their ranch .... one wonders ...
‘Roots’: fair cop. A big part of US history many were unfamiliar with.
But ‘Selma’ is the latest from the so-called civil rights movement as it plays the usual medley of its Greatest Hit (singular).
What may not be clear to the race bizzers is that the ritual of self-congratulation only brings into stark relief how their leaders have squandered their ‘victory’ in the 50 years following.
The greatest irony is all the rhetoric about bondage, freedom, self-determination, etc. in the 60s is rendered moot by the de facto enslavement of much of the black population by a political party with the eager help of black collaborators. A vote to eat tomorrow is really no vote at all, as the Democrats intended.
The big mistake was the films title, it should have been SELLLma.
I don’t have to wonder very long.....
Yup, the racism of Black people not supporting a Black movie! I wonder why that is? Blacks are always bitching that there are not enough Black shows, movies, characters, but I am supposed to believe there aren't enough Blacks theater goers to make this a runaway hit without White folk to prop it up? That's why I get pissed with all the multi millionaire Black performers screaming racism all the time.
How does one “smear” LBJ? By portraying him as honest and concerned for minorities?
WHAT ? Roots was a fictional novel plagiarized from a novel about the persecution of the Jews by Nazis.
US was ignorant of slavery?”????????????????????????????????
Beck never fails to jump in with things like that to prove “I’m not racist”—the highest value current in the country. He thinks it will get him a name for total objectivity and honesty.
When they make the Al Sharpton biopic, it’ll be called SELL ME.
This idiotic statement (on the back of yesterday’s idiocy) shows he has NEVER read a single article about PEGIDA that wasn’t from a left wing news source.
Well, they need white people in addtition to the black population, to spend their money to see their black vs whitey movies. Whitey has gotten sick of supporting this.
NO FILM will ever be made by Hollywood, BET, Oprah, etc. that tells the WHOLE TRUTH about MLK.””
I knew an FBI agent that was assigned to guard MLKs group when he visited Texas. The agent had to go to this suite and found MLK and a number of women and other men buck naked in the room. MLKs wife was not one of them. This too is a side you will never hear about. The orgies.
Propaganda movies not doing so hot these days.....
Same here. My dad and uncle told me why ....
One of my bucket list items is to do a number on him. Are you telling me I can’t?
Nope - just saying the reason he’s buried on his ranch ... don’t know where on the ranch exactly ... wonder if there’s a no fly zone over it ...
Americans have been race baited a bit too much and probably assumed the film was more race bait. Race bait is race hate by another name.
Oh, dear. Well, maybe Glenn Beck can buy enough tickets to shore it up at the box office.
I don’t see MLK as a mixed bag at all. I just see him for what he was-—another leftwing radical.
He called our troops war criminals, said the U.S. was the biggest purveyor of violence in the world, and he was a “pastor” who didn’t believe in the divinity of Jesus.
I don’t waste my time trying to find out if Obama, Holder, or John Kerry did good deeds, and I see no reason to bother with King, either.
