Sen. Ted Cruz: ‘Our President Should Have Been There’
TIME ^ | January 12, 2015 | By Senator Ted Cruz

Posted on 01/12/2015 2:05:17 PM PST by Brad from Tennessee

We must never hesitate to stand with our allies. We should never hesitate to speak the truth. In Paris or anywhere else in the world.

On Sunday, leaders representing Europe, Israel, Africa, Russia, and the Middle East linked arms and marched together down Place de la Concorde in Paris. But, sadly, no one from the White House was found among the more than 40 Presidents and Prime Ministers who walked the streets with hundreds of thousands of French citizens demonstrating their solidarity against radical Islamic terrorists.

The absence is symbolic of the lack of American leadership on the world stage, and it is dangerous. The attack on Paris, just like previous assaults on Israel and other allies, is an attack on our shared values. And, we are stronger when we stand together, as French President François Hollande said, for “liberty, equality, and fraternity.”

Yeah, fraternity. Yeah, United Nations. Yeah, New World Order. Yeah, unity.

True, and as much as I like Tom Marr, who fills in for Mark Levin on occasion, he really irks me when he says - “he is MY president.” Nope -not mine - I didn’t vote for him and I don’t accept that he is our legitimate president.

I bet if Barry knew the Danish Prime Minister babe was going to be there, he would have made an attempt.

Was Helle Thorning Schmidt there? If so, after the selfie at Mandela’s funeral, maybe the mooch told barky he couldn’t go. Of course mooch shouldn’t have anything to worry about, I’m pretty sure barky would rather spend a day with reggie love.

Probably American Exceptionalism. We are so exceptional we do not need to bother with such things.

Seriously, obviously it was the powers on high. The only reason I can think of I mentioned on a thread last night. Obama made that statement about "the future does not belong . . . ." (and I included the whole thing which included other peoples and religions) to those who satirize the Islamic prophet.

Since that Charlie publisher made their living on trashing other religions and cultures with cartoons (some question if one who lampooned Jews was fired, I don't know). Anyway, I think they didn't like that but we could have gone in support of the Jews in the supermarket.

That's why I used the word transcend. Many there may not have liked satirical cartoons, I don't know, I wouldn't circulate them publicly but might chuckle privately over some, some had political conflicts, but it's way more about that, freedom to make them which I would have to defend.

Or they could be sending some other message only they know.

What did the Tea Party rallies in Washington DC accomplish? We are talking about a direct assault on the very basis of free speech in the West here.

We are talking about a direct assault on the very basis of free speech in the West here.

So let's send the President of the United States to a political rally and group photo-op in France.

It's worth noting that the leader of France's right-wing nationalist party was excluded from that rally ... so who was really standing up for "free speech" there?

The absence of the leader of the French nationalist right wing party has nothing to do with the leader of the supposed world’s greatest republic, not taking his place amongst leaders of other free nations in sending a message to those who are hell bent on killing free spèech in the west. When did any US leader ever boycott an event because LePen wasn’t invited?
A political rally involving some 40 heads of state standing g up for free speech, after journalists have been slaughtered for exercising their right to free speech? You bet.

I’ll tell you what the intent of the Paris March was, to attempt to stem the tide of the so-called “Far Right”, because the European establishment knows their days are numbered.

You are probably right. Expect “right wing” parties to add to their already impressive gains in upcoming elections in Europe after these attacks.

I saw no reference to "free speech" in any of the reports I read about the rally. It was described as a "unity rally" for "tolerance and co-existence."

No U.S. leader should ever feel obligated to show his face at that kind of silly crap. This is why the rally wasn't even attended by U.S. leaders who have criticized other U.S. leaders for failing to attend.

WHY WASN'T TED CRUZ THERE, IF HE THOUGHT IT WAS SO IMPORTANT?

It's pathetic how many conservatives have bought into this blatant political posturing.

You saw no reference go free spèech in any of the reports from Paris huh? You must be living on Mars. I saw plenty of references to free speech in the media reports on the Paris rally including a report from your own CBS news. Even Jon Stewart got in on the act with an attack on Obama for not showing up on a free spèech rally.
Why was Ted Cruz not there? When did Ted Cruz become the Secretary of State or a member of the State Department or the cabinet? It’s the executive that represents the US government and caries out foreign affairs, not the legislature who are there to make laws.
Btw, there is no need to keep using caps. They don’t make your points any less idiotic.

Naaah. What is pathetic is some random Canadian, presuming to dictate to Americans on whether they should attend a rally or not, and getting his knickers into a twist over it.

Your posts are confusing. I don't watch CBS news, let alone own it -- so I don't know what "your own CBS news" means.

Ted Cruz doesn't have to be Secretary of State or a member of the State Department, or a cabinet member to attend a rally overseas. If it was that important to him, he would have gotten on a damn flight and attended the rally.

He didn't attend because it wasn't important to him. And it wasn't important to him for the same reason it wasn't important to anyone else in the leadership of the U.S. government: U.S. leaders don't attend political rallies in foreign countries, period.
