In the American liberal compass, the needle is always pointing to places like Denmark. Everything they most fervently hope for here has already happened there.
So: Why does no one seem particularly interested in visiting Denmark? (Honey, on our European trip, I want to see Tuscany, Paris, Berlin and . . . Jutland!) Visitors say Danes are joyless to be around. Denmark suffers from high rates of alcoholism. In its use of antidepressants it ranks fourth in the world. (Its fellow Nordics the Icelanders are in front by a wide margin.) Some 5% of Danish men have had sex with an animal. Denmarks productivity is in decline, its workers put in only 28 hours a week, and everybody you meet seems to have a government job. Oh, and as The Telegraph put it, its the cancer capital of the world.
So how happy can these drunk, depressed, lazy, tumor-ridden, pig-bonking bureaucrats really be?

Do you know how to tell a Swedish extrovert?
When he talks to you, he looks at your shoes.
Existing vs living.
LOL!
That certainly applied to those I dealt with.
While the negotiating team made it clear that they had no regard for our laws, under which they'd agreed to perform, the most reasonable and personable non-Finns I dealt with were in the legal firm defending them.
We are Borg, resistance is futile.
The future of scandinavians has been predicted in science fiction.
Spend on winter in Denmark and you will be pretty miserable too. Dreary!
I have felt exactly the same about every Nordic (and most Euro) crime show I have watched. The American show, “Jesse Stone” is similarly depressed/depressing. “Lillehamer” is an exception.
The odd thing about “Wallander” is that it portrays the lifestyle of the upper bureaucracy as quite comfortable. No one is happy, but everyone drives an expensive car, lives in a lovely beach home, goes on vacation, has every modern tech toy, dresses well and eats well. Yet, the entire show is dreary.
The Swedes at Volvo would brag about how much time they got off in Sweden. When they were asked “Why don’t you offer that same benefit to Americans?”, they responded “The US government limits vacation time to two weeks”.
Absolute morons.
Right now I’m obsessing on Elementary. I love to watch his mind work and Jonny Lee Miller is very good. Not so fond of Liu but she’s okay. I like her better now that I’ve gone back and gone through the first season.
Thanx for the tip. I just added it to our queue.

Well, they DO have a lot of Middle Easterners, don’t they?
