PARIS (AP) At a kosher supermarket in Paris, a quick-thinking Muslim employee hides several Jewish shoppers in the basement before sneaking out to brief police on the hostage-taker upstairs. In the town of Dammartin-en-Goele, a poker-faced businessman fools a pair of gunmen into believing they're alone in the building before being allowed to leave unharmed.
In the days after the bloody end of twin French hostage crises Friday, stories of life-saving courage are beginning to filter out. One of the most striking is the story of Lassana Bathily, a young immigrant from Mali who literally provided police with the key to ending the hostage crisis at the supermarket.
Bathily was in the store's underground stockroom when gunman Amedy Coulibaly burst in upstairs, according to accounts given to French media and to a friend of Bathily's who spoke to The Associated Press. Bathily turned off the stockroom's freezer and hid a group of frightened shoppers inside before sneaking out through a fire escape to speak to police. Initially confused for the attacker, he was forced to the ground and handcuffed.

It is always a breath of fresh air to hear a story about someone actually doing the right thing for a change. So many stories about people doing rotten things....
Look, he’s nice. REALLY, really nice, super nice.
But the reason why many in the media are throwing themselves to their quisling knees and GUSHING with thanks for this man and making a huuuuuuuuge deal about him being a Muslim is because of...
COWARDICE.
They’re inwardly accusing their multicultural selves of deeeep down being SCARED of Muslims —I mean of Islam and Muslims in general.
The residual tiny ATOM of common sense is really, really scaring them.
IT IS DISGUSTING.
Seriously, I have seen this nice story echoed in about ONE HUNDRED different places.
It’s a multicultural thank you BOMBARDMENT.
I was just waiting for an excuse to cut peaceful Islam some slack, and boom, it falls into my lap.
Yes, I think this man is a hero.
What worries me is the idea he’s somehow a greater hero because he is a Muslim - and that seems to be the line the press takes.
He is a hero because of what he did - not because of his religion.
Same as the Muslim police officer who was killed. I have the same respect for him as any other police officer killed in the line of duty. But he’s getting much more coverage in the press than the other police officer killed (Franck Brinsolaro) simply because he’s Muslim.
"In the aftermath of the massacre, Joseph pointed out that during a news report about the attack, Muslim children gathered behind the journalist, happily making the hand signal of firing a gun, making the V sign, and celebrating. This is in their blood, Joseph said. Its not something that Americans understand. But Ive been stabbed, I have had a lot problems with them. I know their hatred. These are people whom the Koran commands, very clearly, many times, to kill us. We are supposed to be murdered. Yet I see these people reports on TV saying, Oh well, Jews and Muslims lived side by side for many years in Muslim Spain. But you can talk to my, to my grandparents. You can talk to those who lived under Muslim occupations. They were dhimmis, they had to pay more taxes, and the day that the Muslim king wasnt happy, hed come in and kill everyone.
How many Jews working the halal market?
Media can't have it both ways. We're supposed to not blame the religion in the case of the terrorists, yet laud the religion in the case of the hero.
Which one is it, media? Is this guy a hero because he's a Muslim, thus making the other guys terrorists because they are Muslim, or is this guy a hero, and the others just people who got their jollies killing people?
I wouldn’t count on it.
do the shoppers he hid in the freezer corroborate the story?
Agree.
He may be a Muslim in name only. Lots of Jews are Jews because they have a Jewish name and lineage but we all know that many of them don’t practice it and go to synagogue. This guy may just be assumed to be a devout Muslim but I doubt that he is, especially while working in a Jewish shop.
He is a hero, and also a very bad Muslim.
Exactly, I wouldn’t even call him a “moderate” Muslim, but a “cultural” Muslim at best, who doesn’t really believe all that crap.
We should spread these stories far and wide. We are modeling what needs to be the norm. Let’s the sane ones know they aren’t really that alone. Distasteful as it may feel, if we want the Jihad criminals to be ostracized, we need to allow people to separate from them and be welcomed.
True, working voluntarily in a Jewish shop would suggest he has chosen a distinctly non Muslim attitude.
Bingo. This is the whole key to isolating the terrorists
This guy is now a marked man. His fellow islamics will kill him ( probably after torturing him badly). Helping christians and jews is aposthesy
And thus perpetuated is the myth of the “noble savage”....
