The senator is on-record denying climate change and has regularly pushed for government cutbacks.
As expected, after a major GOP win in the last Congressional election, there's been a shuffling in the ranks of committees, including those that oversee science in government. Next up to chair the Senate subcommittee on Space, Science, and Competitiveness, and thus oversee NASA in the 114th Congress: Texas Senator Ted Cruz.
Cruz, a republican, has said it is "critical that the United States ensure its continued leadership in space," but his stances on established science will no doubt be concerning: he's gone on record, for example, denying that climate change exists. Cruz has also promoted himself as a Tea Party spending hawk, attempting to slash budgets across the government.
Whether the appointment, which will be confirmed later this month, results in that happening to NASA remains to be seen. Cruz serves a constituency in Texas, home of many NASA employees who would likewise hope to see America's "continued leadership in space." But on that front, there is some history. In July 2013, Cruz attempted to amend a spending authorization bill so that it reduced the amount of funding for NASA, only to have the amendment shot down along party lines.
Cruz will also have some new GOP company in other subcommittees for the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee. Marco Rubio, a Florida republican, will chair the subcommittee overseeing the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
I know thinking hurts you. But try pointing out one thing that is somehow ‘wrong’ with what I said. Something , you know, actually incorrect. It might help you regain some of the cred you lost after your psuedo ‘gay’ admission’ when that argument proved too much for you as well. Which I never saw you retract BTW.
PS, a lot of us had a good laugh about it though ;)
Thus Spoke Zarathustra
Cruz, with five committees, will bedevil RATS who desperately need to attack him but cannot utter his name for fear of giving him name recognition! That’s how Dave Brat beat Eric Cantor out of politics. Therefore they cannot report on those committees.
FNC has been whacked by Qatar and Saudi to never mention his name again starting two months ago.
The MenSeekingMen and FNC can’t attack someone whose name they’re not allowed to pronounce.. delicious irony.
And no doubt he drinks those with a straw too! Probably can’t drink anything stronger than a wine cooler mixed with fruit juice!
> The senator is on-record denying climate change...
No, he’s on record denying the global warming hoax. Anyone who says otherwise should be strung up with piano wire.
Cute.
Of course climate changes, thus climate change exists. Scientific fact.
However, anthropogenic climate change has not been shown to exist, and we all know that is what the liberals really mean, though they can play it both ways.
Careful now.
When I was just a teenager I discovered that drinking Root Beer through a straw that had a couple of pinholes was an interesting experience. Yes, you do get a bit gassy but the Root Beer lasts a lot longer.
Fortunately (for my health) this behavior ended with my teen years and, as I moved on to Real Beer, it wasn't repeated.
I can’t believe that they gave him the most useless position in Congress. I guess they really believe he hasn’t had a result yet. Hopefully at least he goes to NASA and shuts it down once and for all.
