The senator is on-record denying climate change and has regularly pushed for government cutbacks.
As expected, after a major GOP win in the last Congressional election, there's been a shuffling in the ranks of committees, including those that oversee science in government. Next up to chair the Senate subcommittee on Space, Science, and Competitiveness, and thus oversee NASA in the 114th Congress: Texas Senator Ted Cruz.
Cruz, a republican, has said it is "critical that the United States ensure its continued leadership in space," but his stances on established science will no doubt be concerning: he's gone on record, for example, denying that climate change exists. Cruz has also promoted himself as a Tea Party spending hawk, attempting to slash budgets across the government.
Whether the appointment, which will be confirmed later this month, results in that happening to NASA remains to be seen. Cruz serves a constituency in Texas, home of many NASA employees who would likewise hope to see America's "continued leadership in space." But on that front, there is some history. In July 2013, Cruz attempted to amend a spending authorization bill so that it reduced the amount of funding for NASA, only to have the amendment shot down along party lines.
Cruz will also have some new GOP company in other subcommittees for the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee. Marco Rubio, a Florida republican, will chair the subcommittee overseeing the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Amen. That’s a great example of dishonesty in pseudo journalism.
his stances on established science will no doubt be concerning: he’s gone on record, for example, denying that climate change exists.
...
Simply not true, and Cruz is more knowledgeable in science than anyone who makes such a dishonest claim about climate change.
I see that he’s a lecher.
If Ted Cruz shuts down the NASA muzzie outreach program, we’ll know he’s the real deal.
Climate “Science” is not.
Actually I wish they would start calling “hipsters”.... “libsters”. You never see these hipsters with those smarmy elitist type attitude and hippy clothes being a conservative. Basically anyone I see that self identifies as a “hipster” is also a liberal... a far left liberal at that!
I hope he continues to support the privatization of space.
Our new Governor-elect has already been openly mulling the idea of cutting out the licensing of barbers and scrap dealers. It’s a start I guess.
“Cruz is exactly the kind of Senator I’d want to be overseeing a boodoggle like NASA!”
Yes.
This is a good thing.
If I am not mistaken, both of Cruz’ parents were scientists. Whereas Cruz did not go in to science he also has the intellect and core logical thought that is associated with all good science.
And another thing, remember that those here that called for not voting for Republicans, who wanted them to lose, say there’s not a dimes worth of difference are wrong and empty whiners and if they’d had their way this would not have happened.
I would rather see Cruz hounding the NSA.
No one is denying "climate change"...aka daily "weather".
Leftism is truly a demonic state-of-mind.
So they benched him. I’m shocked.
I believe this was once called ‘busy work’.
His parents are mathematicians, and Ted lives a few miles from NASA, something he loves. Paying Putin 10mil per man launched to the ISS is ridiculous.
Now he can sew up the geek vote, too, while he’s out at JPL :)
“...I believe this was once called busy work.”

Science and competitiveness are “busy work”? Perhaps in Obama’s America, among his minions and cronies, they are so considered. But I suspect Ted Cruz will beg to differ.
Remember that James E. Hansen’s GISS is part of NASA. And he filled the place full of so many radicals loyal to him that when W. Bush offered to fire Hansen, almost every one of them threatened to go on strike.
But now that Hansen has retired, hopefully Cruz can carry out a purge of NASA and GISS, reminding the remainder that their job is to explore space, not further the leftist agenda with corrupted science.
I love Colin Lecher's style of "journalism" so much that I'm going to emulate it.
For example:
Colin Lecher, who is on-record as having wet his own bed on multiple occasions, joined The Verge in June, 2014.
Wonderful news!
They are/it is when the mission of NASA is officially to make muzlims feel good about their contributions to science and global warming propaganda.
Oh and putting out the next 1060s rocket to Orbit with Russian thrusters.
When is he at JPL (my neck of the woods).
