The change seems to have been influenced by her real estate husband she married in the 1980s.
The real estate husband is part of it, but she was pretty good (for a Dem) for a number of years after that. She only got really bad after the election of Bambi and the gang. Before that, she was considered to be a “conservative Democrat.”
