Congress should see this as a "get the teacher's Union vote ploy" and not fund it.

What a horrific waste of tax dollars it would be if they do.

States take care of this.
CC used to be free before the leftist took over.
It is still very inexpensive.

‘Free’ communist college is a marxist wet dream. Indoctrinate youts from Pre-K through voting age.

When I was in college forty years ago, my school had lots of students who never paid a dime for tuition, housing, food or books. They were also given a stipend for pocket money. They were all black and hate-filled. Most wouldn't have anything to do with white students or classes, belonged to the racist Black Student Union and despised the system that handed them everything on a silver platter.
I feel quite certain that this proposed hand-out is for black and minority students only. If it becomes law, watch white students be excluded.

His announcement today will be at the community college across the street from where I work. Tennessee has just implemented a new program that pays for the first two years of a community college for folks straight out of high school. It requires everyone to file for any federal aid such as the Pell Grant and then the State pays for anything not covered with the federal aid already available or the state lottery scholarship.
While I don't necessarily agree with the program, if any State wants to emulate it, they are free to do so. We don't need a new federal program. Not sure I can find the article of the Constitution that covers 'Free Community College'

This might have made more sense if it applied to trade schools, where they might actually be employable after a couple of years.
But you’re right, this is about indoctrination and also trying to buy votes.

Ohio has a ‘running start’ program where high school students can graduate with a high school diploma AND an Associates Degree at the same time. Rigorous but achievable.

Our local 2-year college (with four years programs) has a bunch of students who only attend classes until their first check comes in - then they drop out and continue to collect their school money. They repeat this every six months, making it form of income producing financial aid. The faculty is complicit by not failing these dropouts, ensuring they continue to collect the federal dollars on a per seat basis. The true students are happy when the malcontents leave because the classrooms return to learning and their is adequate parking.

Why stop at free community college? We need to have all college education - "single payer."
Right?

How crazy. So now Obama is in favor of free community college. We have to ask who exactly will pay for this free education.
Free K12 education is paid for by us taxpayers. I assume the president expects us taxpayers to pay for this too.
The president should be called out on this. Free college is not free. Somebody somewhere is going to pay for it.

Obama’s Education Plan is to make higher education worthless...what affirmative action didn’t finish this stupid plan will.

This is nothing but a give away to colleges. The “students” can graduate after two years and get on the unemployment line while the middle class taxpayers get left holding the bag yet again.
This and the coming student loan debacle will come crashing down on our heads.
