CHICAGO (Reuters) - Schools in large cities across the Midwest and into the Northeast announced they will close on Thursday to protect children from bitterly cold temperatures as wind chill warnings were issued for most of the eastern half of the United States.

It’s finally started to hit down south, I’m in NC. A few flurries around today, temps peaked at 35 around midday. Wind kicked up. 18 now, 10 expected for the overnight low, wind chill below zero. High tomorrow upper 20’s. No real precip on the agenda until next week, though. Not going to break much over 40 as a high for a week or more.
I’ll eat a can of beans for the cause.
It is 15 here and going down to 9 here in N.AL. I do not like this cold weather. I think something is wrong with my heat because I am freezing. Earlier today the wind was so strong, I thought someone was trying to break in my front door. My storm door was slamming like a giant was playing with it. Y’all stay warm.
Will be ice fishing in short order if this keeps up. Ice is building on the lakes for the first time this year.
Nothing like last year though. One lake we fished on had 24”+ of ice last winter. Haven’t seen that since the late 70’s early 80’s. We were using cordless drill adapters on our hand augers.
I know that 9 degrees in Huntsville, AL is cold. They are not setup for cold like that.
Here in CT, it's not that much colder, probably around 5 above. But got a well insulated house, a couple fireplaces and a furnace blasting away in the basement. And a dog that wants to go outside.
Just slipped below zero here in soviet Red Hampshire...wind chills around minus 20. The media is in hysterics; not sure why.
Chilly here in NW Ohio, 4° with 10mph W, but winds to rise bringing wind chill down to possible -30° overnight. Hey, it’s too cold to snow, we got 2” on ground now. Gonna stay in tomorrow! ;)
Lots of schools are closed tomorrow too. Boston public schools closed.

Most folks look at me sideways when I tell them of 17 inches of snow in Alabama (overnight). We all got bikes for Christmas that year and had to wait a couple of weeks to use them ;’)
