Welcome to Washington, Congressman Grothman.
Glenn Grothman's very first vote as a member of Congress, a vote in favor of John Boehner for Speaker, earned the ire of RedState.com Editor in Chief Erick Erickson who declared Grothman "all talk."
"There will be no standing up by Glenn Grothman. Elections have a way of voluntarily and willingly neutering congressmen."
Critics of Grothman are pointing to Grothman's willingness during the summer primary to criticize Boehner's leadership in the House and suggest that he would vote against the sitting Speaker in 2015.
I would have no problem looking for an alternative to Speaker Boehner, Grothman said in a candidate debate Aug. 1. I have no problem standing up to Republican leadership.
So is Grothman a sell-out? One of those spineless RINOs? A member of the Establishment?
Please....

Agree. The GOP is not fixable.
However, another newby said that he voted for Boehner because he’s seen what happens when people lie about how they’re going to vote; trapping people by isolating them. He also chose not to support the rebels.
I’m not saying it was wrong to support the rebels .. but I agree that these new people do now know who they can trust, and while this was an important vote, as a newby, it’s important to test the waters.
There’s plenty of time to make a stand against Boehner’s bills that they don’t agree with .. and to also make a stand against not being allowed enough time to READ the bills before being REQUIRED to vote.
Everybody needs to stop hyper-ventilating and give the new group a chance to get settled into their offices .. and INSTEAD OF SCREAMING AT THEM, HELP THEM PURGE ANY DEMOCRAT staff members who have been able to weasel their way into the repub offices. THIS IS 10 TIMES MORE IMPORTANT.
Nice straw man, btw. But there are only 435 voting House members (not 500+) and the number of votes required for election to Speaker is a simple majority of those actually voting less any member who votes present. Boehner was elected Speaker yesterday with around 200 votes - the fewest number of votes in the last 100 years.
The final tally does not reflect the futility of striking the king, it reflects the extreme unprincipled cowardice of a small handful of alleged conservatives who could AND should have forced a second ballot.
Give some credit to Ike. His administration saw the dismantling finally of the wartime regulations and business hampering that unleashed finally the postwar boom.
Just curious, was he elected to vote against Boehner? I hardly doubt that came up in the campaign.
*SIGH*
I can’t find how Joni Ernst, Mia Love or Scott Brown voted. Looking like all of our Newbies voted FOR that putz!
Someone please tell me if I’m wrong, or they weren’t allowed to vote for whatever reason...
If you are going to strike the king, you must kill the king.
I feel better, already! :)
Actually, it was an issue during the August primary. Grothman (my state senator at the time) bested two other major candidates - conservative Duey Stroebel (my state representative at the time) and GOPe state senator Joe Leibham from Sheboygan with a 200 vote margin & 35% primary plurality.
During the primary, Stroebel accused (presciently) Grothman of not being conservative enough. GOPe-leaning radio talker Charlie Sykes and Grothman called Stroebel's accusations as silly, miniscule and mean.
I would have no problem looking for an alternative to Speaker Boehner, Grothman said in a candidate debate Aug. 1. I have no problem standing up to Republican leadership. (Quote from source article above)
Please note that Grothman's comment came BEFORE Boehner pushed Cromnibus and failed to actively oppose Amnesty in November.
Under no circumstances would Duey Stroebel have voted for Boehner as Speaker - before or after November.
Gee, I guess Stroebel would have been a more conservative choice.
Joni Ernst is a US Senator. Scott Brown lost his Senate race in New Hampshire. But Mia Love - like most of the freshman House class - voted for Tan Man. A few freshman did vote against Boehner, but not many.
Ah...that’s were I was confused. Yeah, my friends and I have already hashed out the Mia Love vote. Grrrrrrrr!
Uh, nope!
If you have heard one explanation then you have truly heard them all.
Well said Bob.
So if some GOB person votes for amnesty which I oppose....he/she isn't a RINO?
So if some GOB person votes for Islamic "understanding" which I oppose....he/she isn't a RINO?
So if some GOB person votes for increased taxes which I oppose....he/she isn't a RINO?
So if some GOB person votes for more OBAMACARE which I oppose....he/she isn't a RINO?
I could go on.........
So what are you saying...you can't believe your lying eyes!!!!
Ditto that!
Yep!!
What if they voted conservatively on 3 out of 4 issues?
Just did, they failed. But feel free continue sending your donations to the GOPe.
Joni Ernst DID NOT vote for Boehner. She’s a Senator! And Scott Brown wasn’t elected, so he did not get to vote at all. I don’t know what Mia Love did.
Really, it is pointless to cast a vote which will just serve to take you out of your only chance to influence the proceedings in the future. This uprising had absolutely NO CHANCE of succeeding, so it is ridiculous to get into a kerfluffle about it.
That is not to say that Glenn shouldn’t be required to offer an explanation and some very good reasons for his vote.
