But there are only 435 voting House members (not 500+) and the number of votes required for election to Speaker is a simple majority of those actually voting less any member who votes present. Boehner was elected Speaker yesterday with around 200 votes - the fewest number of votes in the last 100 years.
The final tally does not reflect the futility of striking the king, it reflects the extreme unprincipled cowardice of a small handful of alleged conservatives who could AND should have forced a second ballot.
