Woman to woman: Stop hunting for a 'feminist boyfriend'
NY Daily News ^ | 7 Jan 2015 | S E Cupp

Lisa Bonos, Washington Post’s Outlook assistant editor, wants a boyfriend. A very specific type of boyfriend. And I'm not surprised she hasn’t yet found what she’s looking for.

Finding the perfect mate is hard enough as it is, without creating unattainable — in fact inadvisable — expectations.

And at least according to her recent piece, “How to Find a Feminist Boyfriend,” Bonos has imagined not only a man who probably doesn’t exist, but one that shouldn’t exist.

Her dreamed-of boyfriend is neither a true feminist, nor much of a boyfriend. And so woman to woman, I’d like to offer her some advice to save her a lifetime of disappointment and countless first dates at performances of “The Vagina Monologues.”

First, Bonos expects her feminist boyfriend to be well-versed in gender politics. He is “aware of the ways women have traditionally been held back . . . and actively pushes against that. He’s sensitive to the fact that women’s bodies are frequently judged, abused and legislated, and takes no part in that.”

It also makes it harder to throw batting practice to your teenage son when you are 68 years old.

Haven't you heard? 70 is the new 50!

The Outlook section are the pages that are filled with liberal evil. I cancelled my subscription because of the lies printed in it.

These extreme feminists are friggin nuts. Hope they are happy being alone without a man.

Then again a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle. So what’s up with that, why would they be interested in men in the first place if they are so into feminist politics???

I am guessing Bonos is not a fan of the PUA blogosphere.

Seriously, if the first thing she is looking for is an out of shape hipster wearing a "This is what a feminist looks like" t-shirt, then she will never find happiness. AND if she lives in DC, which is a ground zero mecca for those types of (ahem), "men", then she is screwed.

Well, Lisa, that shouldn't be too hard to find. I understand that there are any number of closeted homosexuals that need a "beard", and I'm sure any one of your feminist friends can hook you up with somebody.

The young men I work with are a lot more like those soldiers than they are like Pajamaboy.

I never had a checklist or a favored “type”, the man I fell in love with and married was the complete opposite of the types I had previously dated. We celebrate 30 years of marriage (not counting 2 years of courtship) this month. I wouldn’t trade him for anyone else on earth. he’s the head of the house and I like it that way. Someone has to make the final decision in case of a tie, and we both prefer it to be him. He’s never been wrong yet, even when I initially disagreed.

Exactly. These feminist types get what they think they want (if they ever actually get anyone), then they have no respect for the man.

they have no respect for the man.

And why would they? They are ashamed of being women so they're secretly searching for a man who is ashamed of being a man. But since they don't feel right about being ashamed of themselves, they project their self-loathing onto their partner. And then everything that goes wrong is HIS fault.

These are some sick, sad people.

“aware of the ways women have traditionally been held back"

Looking at her LinkedIn profile, she graduated in 2005 with a BA in "English, Jewish Studies", was hired by the WaPo as Business copy editor 2005-2009, promoted to Opinions copy editor 2009-2011, and promoted to Assistant Editor of the Opinions page in 2011.

For somebody who is presumably in her very early 30's, this does not seem like she was "held back" in any way. I wonder how many white males she jumped over in her career?

I read the original article and had to laugh. What that author wants isn’t a person, what that author wants is a thing. She actually invoked the risible phrase “having it all” as if a boyfriend were in the same category as an Armani jacket or a Mercedes Benz. Just another check-box on the list of being the New Woman. It isn’t a role any human being is particularly suited for if he intends to remain a human being. In fact, you wouldn’t treat a dog or a cat like that.
