Boehner Vote Crisis Jams Hill Phones, Splits Party
Daily Caller ^ | January 5, 2015 | By Neil Munro

Posted on 01/05/2015 6:12:13 PM PST by Jim Robinson

The supposedly routine reelection of House Speaker John Boehner is becoming a dramatic repeat of the GOP’s December split over immigration, where the party’s populist base was jammed by the business-backed leadership.

By mid-Monday, at least 10 defectors said they will vote against Boehner for speaker. A new poll was released showing overwhelming opposition to GOP leaders funding President Barack Obama’s executive amnesty. And the House switchboard was jammed by Republicans who are urging their members to vote against Boehner.

The Daily Caller was on hold for 25 minutes, but the switchboard operator did not answer the phone.

Boehner needs to win 218 votes in the Tuesday ballot, which is scheduled for midday.

If Boehner does not win 218 votes from the 246-member GOP caucus, his critics hope it will attract new Republican candidates for his job. If that were to happen, the process could precipitate intense and lengthy negotiations among the GOP legislators until they can come up with a compromise candidate to replace Boehner.

Boehner’s allies are downplaying the crisis. Oklahoma Rep. Tom Cole told MSNBC Monday that the debate is distracting attention from the GOP’s support for the Keystone XL pipeline. Cole favors an increase of foreign guest workers in place of Americans.

Boehner’s office touted his focus on economic issues. The GOP is “wasting no time getting started, kicking off the first week of the new American Congress with action on three bipartisan jobs bills,” said an afternoon statement, which did not mention the immigration issue.

The amnesty issue is driving the pushback against Boehner...

.... The upcoming 2016 election is probably one of the most important elections in American history. If the puppet Speaker Boehner retains his position ... it will be next to impossible to voice the true conservative choice and message of hope for this country.

... It will be a task to re-educate the people about the forgotten and rarely taught foundational principles that the country flourished under. It will take at least the two short years that lay in front of us to accomplish this overwhelming task.

... And sadly ... Without this message getting out to the people ..... the next President of the United States will be a Democrat. The media will make sure of it. And Conservatism will be forced into obscurity. This country is becoming a Socialist-Statist-Marxist Nation very rapidly .... and the remaining leaders will make sure of this purging.

I remember Michelle Bachmann voted for Boehner last time.

I have never trusted her on anything since then. And never will. She’s out now. Whatever.

But I did not forget that.

These people have to know by now that there will be no acceptance of this, even more so now.

Dana Perino actually said today, and after wisely expressing dismay at Chief Bratton, that Boehner is good because he raised the money necessary to effect the election results of last November.

She cannot be that vapid.

These guys feel pressure.

I wish the House would update their directory to the 114th Congress. I’m in Michele Bachmann’s district and it’s her number that is still listed. It doesn’t work for her successor.

Tom Emmer replaced her and I voted for him. I’ve searched online for his House phone number/e-mail addy off and on all day. He has a Facebook page, but I won’t sign up for that. His campaign website is still up but that is inactive. Grrr...

..........anybody feel free to correct me if I’m wrong but out of 246 so called Republicans in the Republican Caucus us “Conservatives” are scrambling to get 29 votes but so far seemingly have about a dozen.

If a dozen is all we have to vote against Boehner, then there are 234 LIBERALS in the Republican Caucus! (246-12 = 234). Am I wrong?

I say LIBERALS because they consistently vote with Boehner and Nancy and Obama to support the budget deficit, amnesty and Obamacare which pretty much makes you a LIBERAL, at least here in Freeperville.

Split party. IOW, it’s throwing a spotlight on the RINOs. What has he done for the GOP lately? Nothing. All he’s done is kowtow to the usurper’s every wish.

OK, so why do any of us “Conservatives” even pay lip service to “The Republican Party”.

Given the seemingly indisputable numbers, why aren’t we long gone!?

OK, so why do any of us “Conservatives” even pay lip service to “The Republican Party”.

Because despite everything, you understand reality. The Rep party does have a platform that enumerates principles that we can and should support. The people that we all dislike who don’t support those principles, are still in a position of power as tenuous as that might seem to them. It will be by the slimmest of margins IF we win this battle, and it will still be only a beginning if we do win, and it won’t be the end of the war.

Power brokers don’t give up easy. Most of us with a lick of sense understand that Congress by and large has lost it’s way, and there are a very limited number of truly principled men and women in the body, and in my opinion, non of them are democrats, not one. but as the side of evil never gives up it’s quest neither should we. If liberty is to be retained even in it’s limited form, we must win, eventually.

We have been sliding for over a hundred years, we will not win in a day, a week, a month or even years. The war begun before this world was populated is on going and will continue until the only king this nation will ever be called to serve, returns to assume a royal reign. Until then “damn the torpedoes full speed ahead”, and may we be privileged to win a few for the Gipper.

“I have no faith in the GOP in the House. Bonehead will probably still sit in the chair.”

I’m changing my voter registration tomorrow. Independent or other, whatever other means. independents are usually liberal and libertarians are druggies. what great ‘choices’ we have these days.

There is only one solution- a complete reset.

A split party?
Base RABIDLY wants someone else
Business wants Boehner

Representatives:
10-20ish want someone else
200ish want Boehner

What does this tell you? It tells me that the voters may be split but the representatives are in virtual lock-step.

independents are usually liberal

Why do you think that? I have to disagree. Been a registered 'independent' since the time I first voted. See you placed a conditional word of 'usually'. I've found the opposite to be true. Independents (registered) in my neck of the woods are fiercely Conservative.

"...independents are usually liberal..."

I'll be nice and just say that I think your impression is probably based an anecdotal "evidence".

I'm a "DTS" (decline to state) otherwise known as an Independent. It offers me a lot more options when it comes to voting vs. being beholden to the GOP-e which so many around here seem to hold in high regard.

That's a riot! I encourage everyone in Ohio represented by this POS to do the same.
