I’m getting over it. Its bad but I’ll live and no I still wouldn’t waste time getting a shot unless I were high risk for complications.

I do. I stay inside and/or wear a scarf over my mouth when I’m out and about.

Got it right now. The flu shot missed the mark this year. The CDC guessed wrong.

I remember the “swine flu” in the 70’s.

More died from the shot than the flu.

I will pass.

I trust no one who gets a raise for how well they push their worth.

I am working my way thru the flu as we speak. I am a “senior”, and have both read, and been told by my physician, that the flu shot isn’t very effective once you are over 65.

This has something to do with the way our immune systems age. I think, but am not sure, that “they” tried a stronger or double dose to overcome this, but the statistics do not support a reduction in flu illnesses and deaths among seniors. The rates have actually risen since the flu shots were introduced.

The additives added concern me. Mercury, and other questionable “ingredients” added to “improve” immune response could be damaging to health, particularly over the years.

I have treated my flu with colloidal silver, elderberry extract, vitamins, lots of water, and bed rest. I think I am getting over the initial symptoms without any progression into the sinuses or chest.

What works for me may not be wise for others, with different health concerns. Since I live in a “senior” facility, I am isolating myself from others until I am past the point of shedding the virus - at least a week from the onset of symptoms.

The flu shot is a crap shoot. Still I get them most every year since I do a lot of airplane travel. When I take it still can get a cold but never had the full blown flu when taking the shot. Coincidence? Maybe.

They colored my state of South Carolina correctly... RED :)

Never had a flu shot, never will. Don’t much believe in tempting Providence.

FWFW, I haven’t been sick, except for some mild seasonal allergies, in seven years. Could be a coincidence, but seven years ago is when I started taking 5000 IU of Vitamin D3 per day. Buy dirt cheap at Wal*Mart.

Hah! Everyone I know who has gotten the flu shot this year has also gotten the flu — everyone. No thanks! I will take my chances.

Practical steps against flu.

1) Insure that your serum (blood) level of vitamin D is high. By this, I mean a maintenance dose of 1,000 IU each day. Importantly, some people are sensitive to oral vitamin D, and others cannot absorb it at all. But most people can.

Vitamin D has a half-dozen actions both against the virus directly, opening immune system pathways, and as an ACE inhibitor so that your immune system response is moderated. (Most flu symptoms are caused by an overreaction of the immune system.)

2) Optimal transmission of flu by coughing and sneezing happens at 40F with low humidity. The higher the temperature and humidity, the harder it is to get infected this way, so flu becomes dependent on physical contamination, most of which happens via the hands.

So during an epidemic, if you are out in public, use a goodly amount of hand sanitizer about six times a day, especially after touching objects that you suspect are contaminated. Doing so will lower your chances of getting infected that way by as much as 60%.

Otherwise, keeping the air around you warm and humid, with a humidifier, helps.

3) If people in your home have the flu and associated nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, put a gallon of bleach next to the toilet, and ask them to add a cup to the water before, or if they are in a hurry, after they use it. When a toilet is flushed, a fine water spray results which can contaminate every object in the bathroom.

4) Both Cold-Eeze and Zicam contain a form of zinc that is readily uptaken by the mucous membranes, where it inhibits viral reproduction. They taste bad, but the virus dislikes them more than you do.

If this strain came across our southern border, would the media say so? There’s no proof of that that I know of, but such suspicions naturally arise when the press is politically corrupt.

To: blam; All

Last time I got a flu shot - free at work - I promptly - in a few days - came down with a many-weeks case of the flu.

Never got one since. but the others that did each year did and got sick every year.

I haven’t had either a cold or the flu since. I also refuse pneumonia shots. That was over 30 years ago.

I regularly take D3, zinc and C (rose hips)and keep my gut moving with homemade yogurt and/or homemade whey - and carry hand sanitizer in the car and use before and after going into any store/restaurant. These I do as an everyday maintenance - preventative.- But there in ONE THING that nips it in the bud - within minutes, for me.

“the TWINGE”. your NOSE is the gateway for invading germs.
MOst people don’t notice when they get a short, sharp twinge in the nose. But THAT is what you need to pay attention to. It’s the germs setting up ‘base camp’, digging their foxholes in preparation for the full invasion. You have a window of ONE HOUR to stop them in their tracks right there.

This is what works for me. I grab a clove of garlic, smoosh it on the end. I put it up to my nostril and sniff up the vapors several times on each side.

I keep the garlic with me and repeat this every 20 minutes or so for the first hour and then every hour for 4-6 hours - cutting and re-smooshing the garlic. .

If I’m diligent about that first-hour treatment, that is that. If not and it starts to creep to my throat - I double down on the garlic - and gargle every hour with raw honey and fresh lemon juice - both super germ killers. And triple up on D3, C and zinc.

I also have CHF (Congestive Heart Failure) result of heart attack 18 years ago. I take only enalapril - refuse to take the two statins they wanted me too. I take folate, hawthorne, magnesium, etc - and the docs can’t figure out why I’m not, after 17 ears with CHF, not dead or a drooling idiot. They DO NOT want to hear anything about vitamins.

Not prescribing here - nor even recommending - just saying what works for me.

An aside: I’m going to Alaska this summer for visit with family - going salmon fishing, shooting, etc. ..and celebrate my 80th birthday.

So when 6% of people seeking treatment (notice no governing there on the % of the population seeking treatment) have flu like symptoms (which might be the flu, or might not) that’s “high”? That’s some serious fnord.

Simply getting vaccinated — albeit late in the game and with an imperfect vaccine — will still dramatically reduce your chances of getting sick or infecting someone around you.

Oh for Heaven's Sake!!!! A vaccine does absolutely nothing to stop you from infecting those around you. A vaccine protects only the vaccinated. Those that don't understand this have no concept of how a vaccine works, simply touting the conventional wisdom.
