I always wondered - Why didn’t the USA just let the Germans and Russians bleed themselves dry? Once Hitler turned East, there was no way he was going to invade England. The fact that FDR was a proto-socialist, and many in his administration had communist sympathies speaks volumes.
The West went to war over Poland, but 5+ years later, the same politicians gave Poland - AND the entirety of Eastern Europe, to the Soviets, a force as bad as the Nazis.
Our official position was essentially Isolationist until Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. Right after that, Germany declared war on the USA. We couldn't really ignore the fact that the Third Reich had done that.
Indeed. The Communists used FDR's terms in office to thoroughly infiltrate our government.
You display overmuch reason for government decision making. FDR, for instance, genuinely believed he could make Russia do what he wanted through sheer force of personality. It didn’t help that he was basically a walking corpse during his last term, but even at the top of his game he was either a shortsighted, prodigal ignoramous or pure evil.
