Republicans: Political purges may work in totalitarian states, but in a democracy they can be self-defeating. The senator who called the Tea Party "wacko birds" should realize the GOP's real enemies are called Democrats.
It's been said that all politics is local, and normally a state party's internal squabbles would not be national news. But when they involve a former presidential candidate on an issue that will affect the selection of the GOP's 2016 presidential nominee and chances, we sit up and take notice.
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., who lost the 2008 election to Barack Obama and who is running for re-election in 2016, wants to pull the Arizona portion of the grass-roots movement known as the Tea Party out by the roots and purge the ranks of the Arizona GOP of precinct committeemen and local party chairmen aligned to the Tea Party.
Local McCain opponent A.J. LaFaro, who has announced that he will not seek re-election to the Maricopa County GOP chairmanship, has compared the McCain organization's attempted party purge of Tea Party supporters to "ethnic cleansing."

That photo should be on every election poster; simple as that.
You jest?
TEA PARTY PING
I hope this also.
As the saying goes, “what does not kill you only makes you stronger.” The TP movement simply bounces back.
Agreed... John McNasty...needs (must) go away...
Somewhere along the line since he left Hanoi, this once-upon-a-time patriot took a left turn and became just another greasy politician taking favors from the enemy by ratting out his fellow Americans for an extra bowl of thin pumpkin soup and larger portion of gravel filled rice.
This Arizonan will not be surprised if he runs again to hang on to some relevancy, but I will be stunned if he’s re-elected. There are lots of us who vote T-Party. Without us he can’t get elected here.
One can but hope. ;-)
McCain will not bother us much longer after he joins Cuomo. He will not be remembered kindly.
Who will run against Juan...Sarah?
“John McCain should not be hammered. He should be left alone. He and we need to move on.”
Agree. The reason he has survived in office for so long is that Americans have a soft spot (compassion?) for war heroes, especially those who have been POW’s. And, McCain has discretely milked this to the hilt. But, I think the clock gas run out on ole John and his constituents have grown weary of him. If a good strong conservative should run against him in 2016 election I’m thinking he will go down.
Must’ve learned some lessons when he was on that SE Asia vacation during the 1960’s-70’s.
TEA PARTY PING
Did you even read the article? I’m guessing no.
With all due respect, the IBD Editors forgot nothing. Each editorial is allocated so much space. It is an editorial, not War and Peace.
john mccain needs a trip to belize. pray God gives him one quickly.
You need a Tea Party primary challenger, but just one. It seems that the RINOs realize that more than one challenger will dilute the vote against McCain. RINOs try to make sure that there is more than one challenger in the primaries.
Personally, I've questioned the group IQ of AZ Repubs since 1988 when McCain was exposed as part of the Keating 5. The old Goldwater crew must have died off pretty quick. Of course, they also had that moron GOP governor, Evan Mecham, that was run off in just over a year at around the same time that McCain was being exposed.
