Tampa, Fla. Barry Alvarez, Wisconsin's full-time athletic director and two-time interim head coach, passed the baton to new head coach Paul Chryst in style Thursday.
UW entered the 2015 Outback Bowl a 61/2-point underdog against Southeastern Conference power Auburn.
Yet the Badgers erased the memories of an ugly 59-point loss in the Big Ten title game thanks to another remarkable performance from Melvin Gordon, a tying field goal in the final minute of regulation and the winner in overtime by freshman kicker Rafael Gaglianone, and finally a huge defensive stand.

LOL - it will be the Ducks against the Bucks.
“This is the first time since the BCS came to be that a team from the South wont be in the CFB championship game.”
That’s true...and why I’m neutral this year. I’m from the South. But have to say, the other teams are just better this year. Bama looked a little weak even at the start of the season. Ole Miss is always an up and down team. LSU definitely had an off year. And on and on down the list of SEC teams.
I really think the SEC dominance has come to an end. Other teams are getting the same edge, whether it be recruiting, training, better coaches, more steroids...whatever.
Yes, I think a lot of Tennessee fans took some satisfaction from watching that.
AL best get rid of Kiffin. He does not improve programs, he leaves them in worse shape.
Kiffin had some success this year with the team. Seems like Saban gave him a little too much control though. I bet Saban regrets it now. Bama usually has 2 or 3 of the best running backs in the country. That’s been their bread and butter, along with a stout defense.
Funny. Brown hear we hear the whining about the SEC being over rated year after year. Some years that is true. But they top of the SEC is more consistent winners. This year not so much. Thats what I love about college sports. New kids, new passion, new teams.
And now with Harbaugh going to Michigan, and Penn State back on the rise, the Big Ten’s days are looking bright again.
Since 1998 only one championship game had 2 teams fro the SEC. I don’t know what your talking about. Either your ignorant or being dishonest. Maybe just trying to voice something else.
11 of the last 15 championship games had an SEC team in it. Tenn, Fla, LSU, Ala,. Some we won some we lost. That’s the game.
In the era of BCS FL St and Oklahoma have appeared more than any other team.
Only a PAC-10 team has had a BCS championship vacated due to improper activity. SEC is weak this year. Others years not. I grew up when Miami seemed to live as national champs. Except when FL St had its turn.
I will also point out that many coaches go from coordinators in the SEC to be head coaches elsewhere. There is effort, money, support and more effort put into SEC football. Probably more than any other part of the country and in my opinion too much but SEC football pays for most all the other sports programs at those schools. Good and bad.
Just to clarify i didn’t go to any of them. I went to a school focused on engineering, nursing and sciences. I can watch a game just to see young men play hard. I hate the thug behavior that is shown on some programs.
Maybe the Michigan Spartans were just that bad??? Not taking anything away from Oregon - I watched most of that game, but, it was clear that the Spartans were in over their heads.
You mean Florida State/Oregon game? Not Michigan, right?
Would have been fun to see TCU vs. Oregon. TCU though stumbled against Baylor - though they were up 24 points at one point. Ouch! They would have been competitive against Oregon and prepared to play them on defense given that’s similar to what they see in practice every week.
Re NFL. You hear this every year, but the NFL is actually the all-stars from college. ANY NFL team would dominate any college team, especially at the line of scrimmage. It’s a very common misconception though from ‘non football people’. :-)
Yes, I think Johnny Manziel is finding that out.
Woot! On to the NC, baby. Go Buckeyes!
Ugh - I can’t believe I said the Michigan Spartans - Oregon played FSU Seminoles. I watched the Cotton Bowl before the Rose Bowl and got my teams mixed up. Duh!
Yes, I watched the Cotton Bowl right before the Rose Bowl game and got the teams mixed up. Duh!
