The seas have stored most of the excess heat generated by greenhouse gases since 2000, but they are due to send it back skyward December 30, 2014 |By John Upton and Climate Central

Probing a blue abyss can be an abysmal recipe for the blues.
For every 10 joules of energy that our greenhouse gas pollution traps here on Earth, about 9 of them end up in an ocean. There, the effects of global warming bite into fisheries, ecosystems and ice. But those effects are largely imperceptible to humansas invisible to a landlubber as an albatross chomping on a baited hook at the end of a long line.
What scientists discovered in 2014 is that since the turn of the century, oceans have been absorbing more of global warmings heat and energy than would normally be expected, helping to slow rates of warming on land. What they will be talking about in 2015, and beyond, is when that trend might come to an endlikely following a routine shift in Pacific Ocean trade winds. Much of that extra sunken heat will eventually be belched back into the atmosphere by the overheating seas. The effects of ocean warming might be imperceptible to most of us, but they are far-reaching. They are driving fishing fleets further out to sea, ushering tropical fish into polar waters, and worsening flood hazards for coastal communities.

Tell the Pope
Nonsense. They are simply there to promulgate as much tripe as is required to keep themselves in business.
Looking forward to that heat. Midday today at 45 deg. fah. That’s about 20 deg. under our Southern California Inland Empire average I’d say. Forty-five degrees is our night time temperature in the Winter.
Being from SoCal means you are acclimated to eighty degree weather. ANYTHING less is freezing.
“I am kind of curious about what kind of bizarre science the guy is using to claim the oceans are collecting heat in preparation of a sudden massive release.”
Yup, why would they suddenly start selectively absorbing heat when they they had not done so after the last 12,000 years as we came out of the ice ages? Especially since the warming since the industrial age is only around 1 degree C? This would also imply some linkage between CO2 levels and ocean heat retention.
BUT.... the warming is hiding really deep in the oceans. It's down there where it's so cold that the cold is hiding the warmth.
Just more bull excrement.
I have a BS in the sciences.
These people are certifiable.
I’ve got 14 degrees here in Southern Michigan right now.
The average high this time of year is 36 and the average low is 22.
Plenty of volcanoes in the oceans. Had a circa 1850 with an intense dialogue on the subject...and it included diagrams.
Why do scientists pretend they are giving us info on something new.
High on Sunday will be around -1.
Global Warming sleeps with the fishes
... but here's a Weddell seal with a conductivity-temperature-depth tag on its head.
Scary how we have people writing in major “science” journals that the ocean somehow traps heat for years and years and then “belches” it into the atmosphere.
John Upton’s intellect is yet another example proving Common Core must have been taught in the schools, by another name, several decades ago.
More proof the Creator knew what HE was doing when HE designed this planet.
Kinda like global warming itself.
Can’t find a biography for this guy. He’s apparently from Australia and is a journalist.
And the trigger for this to happen is?
The oceans are in a constant state of flux trying to equalize temperatures with the air. When the water is warmer than the air it releases heat to the air and when the air is warmer than the water the heat flows to the water.
Warm always flows to cold in an effort to equalize because cooling is the natural state of the universe.
Actually, they could do the first part very easily. They don't because they know that the results will show how flawed their models really are.
“The seas have stored most of the excess heat generated by greenhouse gases since 2000”
Yes, all of a sudden the oceans started doing this at about the same time their climate models were debunked as bullsh**.
