Outgoing Democratic Gov. Martin O'Malley said Wednesday that he will commute the capital sentences of the state's last four inmates on death row to life in prison, saying executing them "does not serve the public good of the people of Maryland."
Two years ago, the General Assembly abolished the death penalty in the state, making the ultimate sentence in new cases life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Obama, I think, will empty all sorts of prison cells on his way out. Those months between November 2016 and January 2017 will be dangerous.
No respect for life. It sends a signal to all Maryland murderers that their lives are worth more than their victims.

And hitting up the taxpayers to support them the rest of their lives DOES serve the public good?
I’m against life sentences. If someone is going to be put away for the rest of his life, that life should be REAL short.
I had to look it up to see if the Beltway Sniper was one of the remainder on death row. The older of the two, John Allen Muhammed, was executed in Virginia and the younger, Lee Boyd Malvo, received consecutive non-capital sentences because he was a minor.
I won’t wish that all four escape from prison and kill members of his family because that would be wrong.
