Target is fighting back after being criticized for Annie-themed clothing ads showing a white model as Annie, as opposed to an African-American model, or Quvenzhané Wallis, the actress who plays the character in the holiday remake.
LaSean Rinique told Yahoo she launched a Change.org petition after her daughter, an Annie fan, noticed that a girl in the ads sporting Annies signature red dress and locket was white, unlike Wallis, who appears alongside Jamie Foxx in the movie remake.

Years ago, I used to find my youngest boy some decent school clothes there, but not any more. When they first opened around here, you could find some decent clothes and household goods. Then they remodeled the store and the quality dropped dramatically. Now, I feel like I’m in Walmart, only with a different color scheme. Couldn’t even find tighty-whities for Mr Kitty there last week.
I still go there for paper goods, and their knock off American Girl stuff for my granddaughter, but that’s it.
Quvenzhané....wasn’t that the winged snake god the Mayans used to sacrifice to by ripping people’s hearts out?
Vin Diesel..is black.. i think.. when he want to be...
Transgender Annie, you know he’s next.
No, Jim Carrey as Martin Luther King.....”alllll righty then!”
Perhaps the heirs of Harold Gray, the creator of Little Orphan Annie, can sue them for substituting the little white-skinned, red-hair girl with a dark-skinned girl? This is totally absurd, but what isn’t these days?
“LaSean. I suppose that means the Sean.”
Only if “Sean” is a female! “La” is feminine, “Le” is masculine.
“How bout James Franco as Dr. Martin Luther King?”
Or Mick Jagger as James Brown?
“...the comic strip Little Orphan Annie. She is white (and drawn with no eyes)”
MAD Magazine’s sendup, “Little Orphan Melvin” had the character being threatened by a criminal,
“Shaddup or I’ll paint dots on yer eyeballs!”
;^)
“She saw the ad and said to me, ‘That’s not what Annie looks like. How come the new black Annie isn’t good enough? Does that mean I’m not good enough?’”
*cough* BS ALERT *cough*
