Florida Family Action sues Orlando, Osceola officials over plans to marry gay couples
Tampa Bay Times ^ | December 30, 2014 | Anna M. Phillips

Florida Family Action, a conservative group active in the state's gay marriage fight, filed lawsuits on Tuesday against Orlando's mayor and the Osceola County clerk of court, both who have said they plan to issue marriage licenses to gay couples beginning Jan. 6.

The move comes amid a statewide debate over whether a federal judge's August ruling dissolving Florida's gay marriage ban applies to all 67 counties or just to Washington County, the only county named in the plaintiffs' lawsuit. Following advice from their legal counsel, the majority of clerks around the state have said they will not marry gay couples on Jan. 6 — the day the judge's ruling takes effect — unless U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle clarifies his order to ensure they will not face criminal charges.

But Osceola County Clerk of Court Armando Ramirez and Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer refused to fall in line.

In an interview with the Orlando Sentinel earlier this month, Dyer said that he plans to officiate a mass same-sex wedding at City Hall on the morning of Jan. 6. Ramirez told a Fox News affiliate that he would open his office from midnight to 2 a.m. to issue marriage licenses to gay couples. He updated his agency's website to read: "The Clerk's office is proud to support marriage equality. Marriage licenses will be issued on January 6th 2015 at 12:01 A.M. to the first thirty qualified couples who register online."

Florida Family Action filed lawsuits against both officials Tuesday as well as against Ninth Circuit Court Judge Bob LeBlanc, who, according to a Facebook post by the GLBT Community Center of Central Florida, plans to officiate gay weddings at 6 p.m. on Jan. 6.

"All three of these officials have shown great contempt and disrespect for the rule of law and are behaving irresponsibly and unprofessionally," said Florida Family Action president John Stemberger in a written statement. "The federal court decision is clear that it only applies narrowly to the two plaintiffs and only in Washington County."

The lawsuits come at the same time as Hinkle is expected to clarify his ruling. Late Monday night, the office of the Attorney General filed a response, arguing that Hinkle's decision does not clearly apply to all of Florida's clerks. Plaintiffs' attorneys argued in a court documents that clerks throughout the state are bound by Hinkle's ruling and should start issuing marriage licenses to gay couples next week.

"As with most everything that Florida Family Action does, it's pretty absurd," said Mary Meeks, an attorney representing gay couples in Miami who have sued for the right to marry. "To a normal person, it would be humiliating to put the things they've said in writing, knowing in that within 24 hours a judge could smack them down. But they don't care about looking foolish, they care about generating publicity."

During my time at WDW, “gay days” was a license to act out and act up by the members of the “protected class”.

We went anywhere but the parks that week...

Even the ancient Greeks, who's society was rife with homosexuality, NEVER considered this
for their society, sensing no doubt that it would've wrecked them even sooner than they fell.

ACTUALLY the ancient greeks has some very clear documented laws. Adults caught engaging in that conduct were stoned to death or exiled for life.

much of the misinterpretation comes from mistranslating.

(think star wars with the jedi master and the jedi student being intentionally misconstrued by hippies)

Though I believe that aspect of the culture centered around older, particularly high-born adult males and younger boys as a rite of passage.

there is quite a bit of controversy around that opinion. mostly American and british “scholars” tend to push that view. particularly in the late 20th. It generally stems from a mistranslation of mentor/mentee teacher/pupil.

They knew they were making a scene and yet they went even further.

I worked with a homosexual woman who had the typical, arrogant, in your face, homosexual attitude.

She would refer to the other woman as her wife knowing she wasn’t really married in the state of FL . If that fact was pointed out with subtle hints to her she would reply “ I got married in NY and it’s legal now”.

At the work banquet she and her other homosexual turned up with fat flappy boobs hanging out and acting like a child with her.

Is it any wonder why most talk about her and not agree with her agenda, but of course one can’t say anything to her face as that would be a hate crime and she damn well knows she has that power over other people free speech.

There is a lot of what we call today, x-rated artwork and, I believe, a lot of documentation to support a homosexual/pederastic underpinning to ancient Greek society.

Again though, no such marital plans.

Let’s put it this way ... I’m a reformed bigot; “bigot” being “a person who holds blindly and intolerantly to a particular creed, opinion, etc.”

last time a us ivory tower elitist presented such arguments in Greece at a conference, disregarding any translation issues, he was thrown off stage and police were called to keep the other professors from causing him excessive harm from beatings.

it’s good to here you are a reformed bigot and that you can accept that this site and many do not agree with the homosexual agenda , nor them getting married and indoctrinating others to join their agenda.

Was just out in the store where the local newspapers here have this on the front page and there was not one person there who was in line reading this agreed about the homosexual sham marriage, infact many were appalled that these people could try to undermine the states will and constitution.

So much for their historical judgment then. Though history is what it has come to be.

Let them deny - as I earlier said - their ancient art and other documentation.

I suggest you look up “marriage” in your dictionary. My dictionary definition #4 says that “marriage” is “any close or intimate union” ...

I guess that your version of marriage which is anything which goes where as mine is one man and one woman .

Like I said though I am happy you are not a bigot no more and you admit that.
I guess you being on a conservative website wanting any kind of marriage or so called “intimate marriage” is giving you that different view you now can tolerate.

Not sure why you want other kinds of marriage other than one man and one woman , but I am thinking either one of your family members of a good friend is a homosexual and have talked you round to their view and you feel compelled to push your liberal view on here.

agenda

My dictionary defines "agenda" as ...program of things to be done; specif., a list of things to be dealth with at a meeting, etc.

Go figure.

Your guess is pathetically wrong.

Let me give you Webster's full definition of the word "bigot."

bigot ... "1. a person who holds blindly and intolerantly to a particular creed, opinion, etc." and "2. a narrow minded, prejudiced person."

Not sure why you keep quoting a dictionary the very fact you admitted you are not a bigot now is good, but alas I still can’t understand why you come on a conservative website pushing the homosexual agenda for marriage.
