Florida Family Action, a conservative group active in the state's gay marriage fight, filed lawsuits on Tuesday against Orlando's mayor and the Osceola County clerk of court, both who have said they plan to issue marriage licenses to gay couples beginning Jan. 6.
The move comes amid a statewide debate over whether a federal judge's August ruling dissolving Florida's gay marriage ban applies to all 67 counties or just to Washington County, the only county named in the plaintiffs' lawsuit. Following advice from their legal counsel, the majority of clerks around the state have said they will not marry gay couples on Jan. 6 the day the judge's ruling takes effect unless U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle clarifies his order to ensure they will not face criminal charges.
But Osceola County Clerk of Court Armando Ramirez and Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer refused to fall in line.
In an interview with the Orlando Sentinel earlier this month, Dyer said that he plans to officiate a mass same-sex wedding at City Hall on the morning of Jan. 6. Ramirez told a Fox News affiliate that he would open his office from midnight to 2 a.m. to issue marriage licenses to gay couples. He updated his agency's website to read: "The Clerk's office is proud to support marriage equality. Marriage licenses will be issued on January 6th 2015 at 12:01 A.M. to the first thirty qualified couples who register online."
Florida Family Action filed lawsuits against both officials Tuesday as well as against Ninth Circuit Court Judge Bob LeBlanc, who, according to a Facebook post by the GLBT Community Center of Central Florida, plans to officiate gay weddings at 6 p.m. on Jan. 6.
"All three of these officials have shown great contempt and disrespect for the rule of law and are behaving irresponsibly and unprofessionally," said Florida Family Action president John Stemberger in a written statement. "The federal court decision is clear that it only applies narrowly to the two plaintiffs and only in Washington County."
The lawsuits come at the same time as Hinkle is expected to clarify his ruling. Late Monday night, the office of the Attorney General filed a response, arguing that Hinkle's decision does not clearly apply to all of Florida's clerks. Plaintiffs' attorneys argued in a court documents that clerks throughout the state are bound by Hinkle's ruling and should start issuing marriage licenses to gay couples next week.
"As with most everything that Florida Family Action does, it's pretty absurd," said Mary Meeks, an attorney representing gay couples in Miami who have sued for the right to marry. "To a normal person, it would be humiliating to put the things they've said in writing, knowing in that within 24 hours a judge could smack them down. But they don't care about looking foolish, they care about generating publicity."
Not “gay”. They are Homosexuals. They hate their true identity.
Being gay used to be considered adultery, now it is marriage and it is “traditional” marriage and children which have become heresy.
That’s an interesting comment, there, Mary: have you actually won that case yet, or do you figure that since somebody like Obama ignores the law, that you can, too?
You’ve got 24 hours, babe: go.
exactly, they took a good word meaning happy and attached it to their agenda.
They’re homosexuals and I always say that when referring to them or talking about them.
As for these two clowns, well I guess a constitutional amendment can be ignored just like some judges think , but what is the betting that these two clowns are either paid off or put there for this very reason and got backed off the homostapo.
The homostapo have done very similar things to other parts of the country in small towns and then took these towns over and brought in their freak parades.
Of course there is still some about and around who pretend they are conservative , even on here who have their homo agenda going.
"hatred" is defined as "strong dislike or ill will," and that term applies far more to bigots than gays.
The word "bigot" is defined as 1. "a person who holds blindly and intolerantly to a particular creed, opinion, etc. and 2. "a narrow minded, prejudiced, person."
Look homeward, Angel.
Marriage is defined in the Florida Constitution as adopted by the People of Florida

The Orlando area has had faggies in their face ever since Disney World started doing Gay Pride Week.
During those `observances’ local talk shows warn listeners not to go to DW & especially not to take their children there.
“Gay marriage” may be the last straw.

Re: Attorney Generals Office files response to the Washington County Clerk of Courts Emergency Motion for Clarification
Pursuant to an order from the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida, the Attorney Generals Office today filed the attached response to the Washington County Clerk of Courts Emergency Motion for Clarification.
The widespread confusion that now exists, as evidenced by multiple media reports, is precisely what the Attorney Generals Office sought to avoid while seeking a stay pending final resolution in favor of either side of the issue. As stated in the response filed today, if the federal court intended the injunction to have effects beyond those that appear on its face, the court may wish to provide appropriate clarification.

In all major societies marriage has always been between “man and woman” or “man and women”.
The homosexual lobby wants to change the meaning of a word and then claim that they are being excluded from application of this new definition.
If the meaning of words can be altered then there are no limits.
"hatred" is defined as "strong dislike or ill will," and that term applies far more to bigots than gays.
I have no idea whether donut punchers hate their true identity - but are you claiming that Old Sarge is a bigot because he says they do?
This is nothing, people should see what judges say in private as judicial and bar conferences. That is a place to sneak a cell phone video.
took the kids to Disney for their first time and saw two disgusting horrible looking butch women touching each other , kissing each other on their chest etc.
It was obviously a show for others and trust me they did themselves no favors as everyone said it was disgusting and when I said to the two of them how disgusting they were I got a man thank you.
exactly
Your "major societies" would include Islam ...
My retired Navy son flew in P3 aircraft, and a "major Islamic society" allowed his aircraft to operate out of an Islamic nation ... where they were invited to a Friday ceremony and given front row seats ... an area where be-heading happened ... and blood spurts landed.
Would you welcome beheading ceremonies for gays in America?
PS ... My late (wonderful) wife's family seems to be passing gay genes around.
> Would you welcome beheading ceremonies for gays in America?
Not at all. Where do you get such a ridiculous notion?
looks like trolls are out in force.
“....when I said to the two of them how disgusting they were I got a man thank you.”
Meaning they gave you the finger? Sounds typical, faggies are so full of class.
I was in Orlando on business in 2003. An AM talk show host was warning everyone this was gay week at Disney World: “You don’t want your kids to see what’s going on in there!” was the message.
That would be classified as “hate speech” nowadays.
That’s exactly what he’s doing.
