Maybe it's that they don't have anything on him.

Yet.

Because they’re mostly there to line their pockets. They fear someone who sounds different ( like, maybe just maybe that someone wants to represent the citizens — policies notwithstanding, that’s different). Someone different might not play the Gravy Train game. Worse, he might try to end it.

The GOPe hate Ted Cruz because the gentleman from Texas did not have the good sense as they all did to stop pushing for the issues which got him elected in 2010, that schmuck! /sarc

They fear Ted because they know he speaks for millions of us. Silencing Ted is silencing the millions.

You are thinking of the US gov’t as a collection of agencies and bodies and clusters and gaggles of people who are somehow interested and dedicated to improving life for “the people” and improving the status of “the country” and helping people.....that kind of thing. “Doing the right thing”, if you will.

A very very few are. Most, the great majority of them, are simply grifter bureaucrats looking to maintain their cushy jobs of privilege. They could not care less about you. More ominously, they see the country in potentially a terminal decline and like buzzards, they see those who have preceded them as having ripped off the government so thoroughly and the odds of being held accountable are nearly zero. So they are interested in tearing off whatever last few scraps of meat remain on the corpse. Sorry for the image, that’s not how I see it and probably not how you see it, but these are scalawags looking to steal whatever they can. It’s basically a license to steal and live high on the hog on the taxpayer’s dime.

Cruz isn’t part of that, at least as far as we know or suspect so far. So he and his actions, indeed, his very presence threatens to pop this bubble they live in and/or expose their scamming.

I don’t think it’s much more complicated than that.

Because he doesn’t want to join their reindeer games, thus they have no control over him.

They fear him for the same reasons they feared Ronald Reagan before he became President.

A Harvard graduate, Cruz is a threat to so-called "progressive" ideas which dominate the American culture today.

Cruz is a threat because he understands, and can articulate in a way "the People" can identify with, the ideas of liberty.

Nothing threatens so-called "progressives" like a free marketplace of ideas. That is why they must censor and shut down intelligent debate on the principles of liberty, as stated in America's Declaration of Independence from oppressive government power, and structured into "the People's" Constitution which limits government power by placing chains on those who represent us.

Cruz's ability to capsulate those ideas into language "the People" can understand is threatening to those who must fool the people in order to enslave them.

There are others outside the senate that are worth watching for the future.

Michigan Attorney general Bill Schuette (Shooty) reminds me a lot of how Ted Cruz was as AG. He’ll sue his own party on behalf of the people of the state if the constitution demands it.

They cannot understand and would fear anyone who would come into the Senate and not go nodding toward the trough with the rest of the herd. Plus, knowing their own mediocrity, when someone as demonstrably accomplished and smart as Cruz comes along and won’t cooperate it’s exposed for the peasants to see. Can’t have that!

Because:

1. He votes his conscience, not the party line
2. His first loyalty is to the people, not to the Republican establishment
3. He hasn’t compromised his principals in a manner that he can be blackmailed into toeing to the party line
4. He has integrity

I guess in short, the Party leadership don’t trust him because they have no hold over him.
