Arrests plummet 66% with NYPD in virtual work stoppage

It’s not a slowdown — it’s a virtual work stoppage.

NYPD traffic tickets and summonses for minor offenses have dropped off by a staggering 94 percent following the execution of two cops — as officers feel betrayed by the mayor and fear for their safety, The Post has learned.

The dramatic drop comes as Police Commissioner Bill Bratton and Mayor de Blasio plan to hold an emergency summit on Tuesday with the heads of the five police unions to try to close the widening rift between cops and the administration.

The unprecedented meeting is being held at the new Police Academy in Queens at 2 p.m., sources said.

Angry union leaders have ordered drastic measures for their members since the Dec. 20 assassination of two NYPD cops in a patrol car, including that two units respond to every call.

I don’t think that police who are angry with de Blasio have the right to stop doing their jobs while still getting paid. If you feel you like you can’t do your job under the current circumstances, the honorable thing to do is resign. I never respected de Blasio, and now I am losing respect for the NYPD.

I believe they are doubling up on calls for safety reasons. Thus arrests for minor offenses are way down. I think you are mischaracterizing what they are doing.

Wasn’t that ruling reached further back than 2013?

If I were a cop in NYC I wouldn’t patrol in any area known for being anti-police. If a call came in for said area, I would go unless I had at least two additional officers.

Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner! You read my thoughts exactly.

Union leadership will do what they always do - posture for more lucrative contract(s).

Call me a cynic, but I fear the rank & file, as well as the law-abiding citizenry of NYC will be sold down the river. Say hello ... again ... to the days of David Dinkins.

And when the cops where you live take a powder and let the hordes in?

This is a bad thing. It is a break down of society, and it will spread.

From what I read Rudy Giuliani did a great job cleaning up the city. Shame to see it being undone by this clown.

Don’t feel safe with the cops?

How safe do you feel without them?

What I was thinking. Cops are like anyone else are will look forward to arrests of people possessing 16 ounce cups of soda if that keeps them employed. Being libertarian minded I always see law enforcement as a necessary evil to be watched.

Yup, extremely low voter turnout.

Yup, extremely low voter turnout.

Be careful with the "extremely low voter turnout" argument - after all, at the national level, the 2014 midterms had the lowest voter turnout of any election since World War II.

Oh. One of those, eh? Well, that Billy The Goat is a pretty tough customer.

Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine and Navy. I’d like to visit them all someday.

(Unless he nukes us, I bet øbola would have a hell of a time closing them down. And after he was essentially “silenced” by the Corps at West Point when he was last there, you know he has it in for them. He’s not the type of rat-bastard who forgets.)

“And when the cops where you live take a powder and let the hordes in?”

Huh?

I don’t know where you reside, but here in Crook County, IL the “hordes” have been here, getting stronger and ARE “in”, since the MLK riots of 1968.

Former Black Panther leader and current Democrat Congressman BOBBY RUSH is, and has been the representative here, but only for Obama voters.

“Rep Bobby Rush, (D) Ill, is under investigation for a variety of charges. He is accused of misusing campaign funds, improper reporting of finances, and the missing one million dollar grant provided by a private company aided by Rush in Congress. Rush maintains his innocence.

The Chicago Sun Times has led an investigation into various transactions Rush has had and possible violations of the law plus quid pro quo arrangements with the telecommunications companies, including a million dollar grant that Rush can’t explain where the money went.”

Manhattan is one of the safest places on the planet

Only because of the over-the-top security. Other places don't need a TSA agent every 36 inches. NYC is a hellhole to the rest of us.

NYC is an amazing city and has the best food and entertainment options in the world

But it takes an income like yours to take advantage of that. NYC is a hellhole to the rest of us. The elite banker culture doesn't help.

I fear that we will start seeing an increase in street crime.

Street crime in my town would be insignificantly different whether the police showed up or not. NYC is a hellhole to the rest of us.

This is exactly why we need to be armed. Yet the people of NY permitted their elected leaders to disarm them.

It’s hard to believe the police would abandon the protection of the public but ultimately, they see the public as the enemy and their central purpose is to protect themselves and each other from the enemy by any means necessary.

This is why we are in the mess we are in and the cause (militarizing the police after 911) and the reaction (commies herding blacks into race hate, murder and mayhem) was designed by our own Federal government and elected leaders.

Oh well... Glad I don’t live there. And I’m glad not all States and police forces will follow suit. In some places there will be a lot of injured and dead commies/rioters/looters and in other places the criminals will be freely terrorizing society with the blessing of police forces (think Mexico).

Amazingly, it appears the public approves as Obama’s rating went back up to 48% as he stoked the fires of race hate.
