“The Sikhs tend to be pro-America. If nothing else, they’re anti-Muslim. This is speaking from personal experience with a handful of Sikh men with whom I worked. I don’t know if this is an overly-broad generalization.”

What is their tradition on the treatment of women? We have an older Sikh living nearby. I don’t know him, but he does make his wife walk 10 steps behind him.

The subjugation of women has been a social norm for centuries, unfortunately. Prior to the 1920s, women were not considered on-par with men even in the United States. I am by no means making an excuse for this behavior, but I think it's important to distinguish when women are considered part of a faith, as with Christianity, versus when they're considered property as with Islam.
