As Mayor Bill de Blasio took the podium Saturday at the funeral of P.O. Rafael Ramos, thousands of police officers in the streets watching video of the service inside turned their backs, in unison, to the monitors.

The family asked for his presence. Family wishes trump all. The officers should have respected that.

I can understand your point, but it appears that his alienation of the police is complete considering their choice to do that at the funeral despite the wishes of the families.

I’m not defending him at all; I loather him, and he did it to himself. I just remember the same stuff when Hillary was running for president, and being criticized for attending services for dead soldiers; I suspect many of those criticizing her would have done the same if she didn’t show up...

Not proof altho I’d like to see a photo of him standing before the cops, with their backs to him. Until then, I can’t say that they did at the funeral.

I could not care less that Bill the Red gets insulted. It’s the venue. He was there at the request of Ramos’ family. The purpose of the assembly was to give respect to his sacrifice and solace to his family. A member of my family has been on the job continually from 1952 to the present. Three generations. Not one of them wouid have disrespected a brother officer’s family by using his funeral to make a political point, no matter how valid that point. If you cannot see that, you weren’t raised properly.
